Those counters are pretty interesting.

I wonder how to scale that picture is, cause it makes the ammo case look small. It's smaller than the rulebook in that shot there. It would be a cool case to put my marines in, but I wonder if they'd fit or not.

Oh, and is it just me, or would that fancy tri-fold book cover take up a ton of table space as to be impractical? It does look cool though...

It's not supposed to be practical. It's a Limited Edition Rulebook, you don't actually use it on the table-top.

I was told the ammo case could have foam put into it and used as a storage case.

Well the PDF says it comes with foam.
It doesn't however say how big it is. So you never know it could be a great storage case for 1 squad of marines.

I was gonna wait for the boxed set but...can't...resist...ammo crate! Guess I could give the little book away. Why pay for #2 when #3 has so much more crap for the same price?

2 is for collectors.

Assuming $90 = £45, 3 looks like the bargain deal.

Those books had use in their time, and weren't easily available.
Basically the only difference between the normal edition rule book and the special edition is asthetics.
In 20 years will the special edition be worth more than the normal edition? Probably but if you are able to find a normal edition in 20 years you'll be just as happy.

Well, GW did name them COLLECTOR'S EDITION - you know, for the collectors.

And GAMER'S EDITION - for the gamers.

Makes sense and everything.

Probably a safe guess that the rulebook fits snuggly inside the box with the templates and counters and foam. Has that nice all-in-one box feel. The case should be good for a demon prince or odd sized squad.

I frequently fall victim to suggestion when facing the preorder pitch at my FLGS. I got the apocalypse backpack and am happy i did. Warhammer collectors edition... not so much.

I wonder it they'll sell those counters separately. If not, then I'm going to have to seriously consider #3, despite the steep $90 price tag.

Preach on, brother. I still whip out "The Infantryman's Uplifting Primer" and rattle off a few verses before a game.

When Cities of Death came out there was a set of strategem markers but it was only on sale for about a week.

I will try to get the cheapest rulebook ( probably second hand split from the main box) They will make a smallish one right?
I dont find these books with enough artwork to be worth to collect... thats why they are called rulebooks and not artbooks
Besides for their price you can get tastier books.

But i totally understand people wanting to get the shiny box and the purity seal.

Whew!

Bullet dodged there!

No need for the $90 set (either one), so I'll be OK with "only" paying $50 for the rulebook...

The Alliance thing listed the counters and templates as their own releases.

I imagine the major unique element to the Gamer's edition is the crate, just as the backpacl was the single unique thing about the Apoc Gamer's edition.

Yes, but the cities of death counters were printed styrene, circle punched from a sheet. Not a huge investment for GW there.

These are actual sprues. Sprues cost alot of money to make. Do you think that GW would go through all of the trouble for this sprue to be made to only make it available with this limited item?

Someone had mentioned that the ammo box looked 'unreal', I have a feeling it isn't real at all. All of this stuff looks like some sort of digital mockups to me, including the nutty trifold book. The counter sprue most likely is as well. Manufacturers do this to start marketing and educating their employees on the product before it is fully complete.

I can see why someone would want the big trifold book, as well as a little one from the box set. The big books are kind of like coffee table books in size and application. they have tons of fun pictures, scenarios, and hobby tidbits that are entertaining to check out. The large books suck for gaming however, so the little books are nice to have for in game rules reference.

Personally, I would go with the little book (preferably acquired online via ebay or what have you, as opposed to buying the whole boxset) and that is it. That is just my feeling on the thing.

I agree. These markers, if they actually release them in the future, will probably be available on their own as a standard product. The fact that GW hadn't done this to this point is a little odd.

They are being released separately, as are the templates:

GAW 65-06 40K Template Set $6.00
GAW 65-29 40K Counter Set $15.00 (Whether this is one spure or two, it does not say)

The Gamer's Edition basically sells you the "Ammo Box" for $19.00 US, as the rest is available for $71.00 US, unless it is $15.00 per Counter sprue, then the "Ammo Box" is only $4.00 US.

Apocalypse Reload?

I sense that somewhere Francis Ford Coppola is chuckling. Or retaining counsel.

Sweet. The metal crate edition looks like my choice too. $40 for the crate, counters and an extra set of templates isn't too terrible.
