Alan Moore is a full-blown crazy genius, though, and that genius justifies his eccentricities. At least in my opinion. I finally read Voice of the Fire this summer too. The guy is amazing.

It's a shame his best work is years behind him. He'll never be able to top The Watchmen, and I think that's one of the reasons he's so cranky about anything and everything these days.

That was charm of Nie Owl, he was overweight, he was lonely he did have "ahem" problems. But they were normal problems, ones that anyone and everyone could suffer from.
And will people take him seriously now that he looks like a Batman-wannabie and yes I'm awear that he was based on Batman. He just looks to much like Batman now.
I don't think they can really devout enough time to Nite Owl in a two hour movie for people to understand his complexity with every thing else going on. Most movie viewers will see him as a Batman wannabe and nothing else. If he comes off as comic relief it could hurt the overall story.

I get he had some problems with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and... the Captain Britain character, was it?... but the way he treats film adaptations of his work like flag burning turns me off of him. He sounds full of himself and exacerbates a lot of the nerdrage a geek-film inevitably gets.
I got interested in Hellboy because of the films and Mike Mignola's has a great attitude about the whole thing. Even when the films differ he just says "Well they should be different" .
The league thing truly offended him on a core level. He was portrayed as a studio hack and thief in court. I can understand why he is was so upset. He is not someone to let go of a grudge.
DC also screwed him over. Alan was supposed to get all the rights to Watchmen after the original printing, but DC had no intention of letting the right revert to him. As long as Watchmen remains in print, it belongs to DC.
And it was Marvelman (Miracleman to us yanks).

Sorry my mistake, but lets face it people while automatically think of Batman when they see him.

Agreed, to have Nite Owl come off as comic relief would be a very, very, very bad think and would only serve to justifie Alan Moore's argument. If the film actruly follows the comic (Both Storyline and script) then it wouldn't be that hard to express Nite Owl's problems with out making it funny or comedic.
"For $200, I'd rather hire a hooker the next time I go to Vegas!
I'd get more play time, play with a sexier model, and have a better story to tell afterwards.
Of course, at the current prices for FW Thunderhawks, it's enough to make the party interesting with a 2nd girl and small pile of blow... "

What bad guys? There were almost no bad guys in that trailer (of course there were almost no good guys either). Probably from the scenes that take place during the 1950's.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
They wear the masks so that they can have a secret identity.
Manhattan doesn't need one as he is a true superhero.
Silk spectre doesn't because she wants to make money from the publicity.
The rest do because they are guys who go around beating other people up, just vigilantes essentially.
