Likely to run 145 minutes.
I certainly hope so. There are so many 'easter eggs' they are going to have to sarry over for fans it would be a real shame to see it cut back, only to have an 'extended version' on the DVD.

Oh. I thought something seemed odd about the perspective in that scene .
Not knowing anything about the comic, I like what I see of Rorschach. I'm going to have to find the comic too before the movie hits. I suspect it will replace Transformers as the new movie to hate... Alan Moore's already gotten a head start on that, I hear.

I'm semi-psyched about this. On the one hand, I think the Graphic Novel is a masterpiece, and still the best thing Moore has ever done. On the other hand, I think it's pretty much unfilmable.
I hope they don't chnage the ending as that would suck, but it is hollywood.
Oh and the costumes for Nite Owl, Silk Spectre, Ozymandias & The Comedian all look like crap.
Like Doc Manhattan though. I just hope Roschach isn't too toned down for the movie, and that he gets a different looking mask in as many scenes as possible.

The thing about the costumes is that whereas the comic reflected comic book costumes, the film version is going to reflect the current trend of film costumes. The comics refer back to comics, and the film refers back to film portrayals of comic characters.
Watch the trailer again, his mask changes.
I think they will keep the basic plot the same. I don't think this an attempt to recreate the comic in every detail, as that would be both foolish and to cumbersome. I hope it keeps the plot and characters honest as well as capturing the essence of the book. Like LA Confidential the movie did for the book.

Being the cynical bastard I am, I have to disagree.
It's great the director and set designers own a copy of the book, but changing medium (comic to film) necessitates changing the story to fit the new medium. Basically, even if the movie was an exact duplicate (as much as it could be) of the book, it wouldn't work as well. Films are different than comic books. Alan Moore has said this several times. His stories were written to be comic books. To be turned into successful films (art-wise, not $$$ successful) his stories must necessarily be changed- hence his removal of his name from films based on his work (he also gives his film $$$ to the artist).
So even if the Watchmen is totally faithful to the comic it will suffer. In order to be as good as the comic it must necessarily change- but can The Watchmen be improved? It can, of course, but by Zack Snyder? I really doubt it. Granted, 300 looked cool, but it was a stupid action movie. And I really don't want the Watchmen to be a stupid action movie. The trailer, however, seems to show that's the direction the film is taking.
Now to be as fair as I possibly can, I was impressed there wasn't an effort to cover up Doc Manhattan's junk, which would be a typical Hollywood reaction to male nudity. However, characters like Nite Owl 2, who are written as older, impotent, and even fat, were cast young and attractive. The same is true of the rest of the cast- essentially throwing off a major plot and symbolic point for simple Hollywood conventions (young = $$$).
It may be good. And I'll watch it opening weekend. But I'm keeping my expectations low and hope to have them greatly exceeded.

I don't know, there have been some good books brought to film. Not sure why comics get some sacred cow status.
I don't expect it to be the same as the book, but I don't want it to be. If I want something exactly like the book, I'll read the book. I'm interested in seeing how it is interpreted onto film. I don't assume it is going to be great, but I also don't assume the opposite either.

Read the comic. Just do it. It's brilliant. I have high hopes for this movie, but it will not ever be able to match the "peeling the onion" story unfolding of the comic.

From what I have heard they are using the original ending.
The costumes needed to change for the movie. I doubt people would have taken Nite Owl seriously enough for the story if he was a fat guy in spandex and Silk Spectre's costume always sucked.

That was charm of Nie Owl, he was overweight, he was lonely he did have "ahem" problems. But they were normal problems, ones that anyone and everyone could suffer from.
And will people take him seriously now that he looks like a Batman-wannabie and yes I'm awear that he was based on Batman. He just looks to much like Batman now.

Not Batman as much as the Blue Beetle. Watchmen was originally a way to use the rights to Charlton Comics which DC had acquired.

I get he had some problems with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and... the Captain Britain character, was it?... but the way he treats film adaptations of his work like flag burning turns me off of him. He sounds full of himself and exacerbates a lot of the nerdrage a geek-film inevitably gets.
I got interested in Hellboy because of the films and Mike Mignola's has a great attitude about the whole thing. Even when the films differ he just says "Well they should be different" .
