There's a hole in the world it's a big black pit and it's filled with people who are filled with shi

I was going to enter my Ogryn, but I sent it in and went to my cabin were there is no internet. Aparently I got an Email that said they couldn't open the file. I used the GIMP software from the site, so I don't know whats wrong, PM me if you can help or If you know what format the pics need to be in.

Great entries, I like the Razide, looks like a Halo Hunter without the armor right down to the orange details and huge glowing green gun.

Does anyone have old squats? I thought there would be more of them in the contest.

Isn't the thing that's labeled Carnifex a Screamer-Killer? If you look in the old like 2e rulebooks, it is called that.

I had a Squat Techpriest about two-thirds painted when the contest was announced. I did paint up a Squat Servitor for the contest, along with the mini that I wound up entering, but had to choose between them when it was set at one entry per person

'Screamer Killer' was simply the general slang name amongst Guardsmen for the Carnifex.

The Votes are In!

Dakka has Chosen it's newest Champion!

A big congratulations to Wehrkind!

With his Wortsnagga model was able to snag the top honor as the Dakka Painting Champion for the Old School Challenge!

To find out who painted what, feel free to check back in the original post. I've added the name of the painter next to each model description.

This challenge has been a blast to both put together and participate in. Seeing some of those old models really makes you think about the history of the games we play and just how long they have been around.

I want to thank all of the participants for a job well done! I put forth a challenge and you all responded with vigor. Here's to seeing this challenge grow more and more as future challenges are laid out before the community to take up and run with.

Once again, congrats to Wehrkind on his victory!

Gratz to Wehrkind, truly awesome paint job on Wortsnagga! Several great entries, some were sold short by the photography I think. A couple that stood out to me;

Commissar by Grey_Death: Awesome model, almost makes me want to buy some guard. Then I remembered there would be 150 other gents I would be forced to paint! Question: Spill the beans on the color you achieved with the ruffle/coils. That gold/yellow looks sooooo rich.

Wehrkind: Not really a question but a compliment. Sometimes, I think you need to have painted or seen the model before you can appreciate the paint job on it. As an example, FW Lok paint jobs always blow me away because I know how small that model really is. The detail is *really* intricate, small and difficult. Same here, excellent job.

MilkiT: The jaw posing on the skeleton Harry just jacked made me lol, you really captured the picture well.

Yak: Best blending over any of the other models...I think the strange quality of the model itself is the only thing that cost you votes (I actually had forgotten that miniature ever existed and had to look it up again). Do you use extender/water to blend or...?

AoE - I really don't remember the exact formula I used x.x....it's sort of sad, but at this point, I hardly ever take time to remember how I've painted something. Most of the time I'm mixing paint on the fly ^_^ ESPECIALLY with skin tones. I believe it was scorched brown > SB/fiery orange > FO > FO/Sunburst Yellow. Sounds almost right I think >.>... I'm sure there was a wash here or there as well!

Congrats to Wehrkind. That model is classic. There's a lot of character there.

Thank you to the people who vote for #23!

It's funny because that model is probably my favorite model of all time for some strange reason. I just dig it but its been sitting around in my closet (along with a couple more of 'em) waiting to be painted.

I just use standard paints watered down and in this case I did use wet blending pretty extensively. I only left myself a few days to paint the mini and I think I kind of hamstrung myself by painting it in the scheme that fits the rest of my Eldar army (which was painted years and years ago and isn't the most flattering choice of colors).

I also could have painted the 'bumps' on the carapace as gems, but again that wouldn't have matched the rest of my army. . .not that I ever will be able to field these with my army so I'm not sure why I even care.

Thanks to everyone who voted for my ghost. It's been rattling around for ages needing an excuse to be painted.

So what is the oldest model here then? Mine is 1985 which places it before the 40K stuff, but the dwarf and 'harry' may well be older again.

You can't count them as wraithguard? Are they too small?

Congratulations to Wherkind, your Wortsnagga was beautifully done.

Thanks to the Mods who ran this DPC. The Old School theme was brilliant. The diversity of entries is testament to that. If not for this contest my termie would probably spend many years in my bit box. I wonder if anyone else had as good a time as I did choosing which fig to enter. I started with 10 possibilities and narrowed my choice down to 3 when I started painting. After the base coats were on I was certain that the Termie was going the distance.

Hats off to all who entered.

Congrats to Wehrkind and good show to everyone who entered! I really enjoyed participating in this contest, although I definitely hurt myself by rushing through the painting (and photography) to get my entry finished on time!

All good fun though, and a lot of very nice entries! I'm looking forward to the next contest!

Congrats Wehrkind! Very nice Wartsnag. Great seeing all the oldies.

My poor model painted well; I have such an old camera it doesn't work on close objects and it doesn't have the best resolution, I've taken photography classes, I set up lights. *ANGUISH* Thems the breaks. *pats self on back and goes off to watch "The Hours" with a loaded gun*

Thanks everyone! I am glad I didn't have access to a computer for the last week; checking every 15 minutes for the first two days was killing me! I figured any second that Carni' was going to pull ahead, or any of the other great figures! Lots of fun, and I gotta say, procrastinating about painting all those little details was wonderful motivation for painting some other back burner projects

... I suppose I should also point out you misspelled my name on the front page

Can that be right? That places the model as being almost pre-slotta. Didn't they only start the futuristic stuff with Rogue Trader, which didn't appear until ~87?

Heh, I thought my marine was from the 80's but I wasn't sure the year.

Funny to think the model I painted is only two years younger than me.

Whoops, my bad the model is GW 1989. It came from a generic sci-fi adventures set. I couldn't make out the last number on the tab because of super glue. I just ripped him out and scraped it clean to double check.

Isn't that a bit drastic?

My figure is marked 1985, but I think he's a later recast as I bought him through their bits catalog nearly 10 years ago. On the other hand I think he's lead because you can draw a dark line with him, so maybe he's original old stock. Who knows?

Amazing work, gentlemen. My favorite was the Commisar, by Grey Death and in second, I think the Yellow Rogue Trader Marine by BloodofOrks. The Commisar had the sleek mod to it, and mad detail with the dark and light shading. The Marine was great too, very striking color balance, but I thought his gun was too clean. For minor details, kudos goes to Terminator by HuzzFivvNivv, the completely unique graphic on the shoulder was great, reminded me of a plant. Everyones was really great, keep up the good work!
