I am really hoping that this will be my first Adepticon. I've never been to a GT so I am a bit (really huge actually) of a tournie-noob but I'd really like to attend.
I guess I better get down to Pasadena to get some practice games in against Darrian (hint hint).

That is a great idea. Let me know when your schedule permits.
Adepticon is the best 40K experience I have had and I recommend it to everyone, even Stelek.

I wonder if they'll have a Necromunda tournie?
Specialist games events happen because someone champions them... (hint hint)
Last year we had tournaments/bring and battles for Epic, AI, Warmaster, Lord of the Rings, High Seas and Old West.
As always, we are looking for volunteers. Send me a PM if you (or anyone else) is interested in hosting events.

PM sent!
Hopefully I can get enough players to run a full tournie...

As an unaffiliated out-of-towner who happens to know this location pretty well, I have to give muhwe and the guys credit. There is every mainstream thing you can think of in this area...its a large-scale strip mall (think Bed Bath & Beyond, Staples, Petsmart, and I think a Best Buy or Circuit City too) on one side of Butterfield Road and a collection of restaurants, bars and hotels on the other. Basically it looks like every other major shopping area in suburbia USA. Downer's Grove Battle Bunker is great, but other than shop for FW or pop in for a visit the actual Con will satisfy your need for GW gaming.
I haven't been to the hotel, but I too travel a lot for work so if another guy who travels a lot says its nice it must be a cut above the average hotel chain, which all seem the same to a traveler after a while.
So, yeah, you can lament the 20mile commute from the airport, but its not a difficult or lengthy drive. To and from O'Hare will amount to an hour or two at most from your entire weekend...the rest of the time you will be at the convention or out and about within walking/stumbling distance to the hotel. Its almost guranteed to be a better overall weekend than in the past. While family will always miss Schaumburg venue for its proximity to the Woodfield Mall, this is really the next best place I personally would imagine.

muwhe wrote:Unfortunately most people only see the final result of a venue selection process. The Crowne Plaza was very difficult for us to deal with last year for a variety of reasons. Even still had they come back with the same sort of deal it would have been difficult for us to leave that venue.
Ultimately they priced themselves out of it with a large sliding scale room rate for 2009 that we felt was unreasonable. The room rate increase, the parking costs, and the difficulties from the previous year forced us to look elsewhere. Honestly, I'm grateful as this new venue is not only head and shoulders better but has enough space that we can continue at this location for years to come.
This new place sounds like its gonna blow. The plaza also had a bar.
Well I travel a great bit for a living and I have stayed at some swanky hotels. This place rates up there with some of the best places I have stayed ever .. It for all practical purposes is a new convention hotel less than a year old. ( and yes .. I stayed at this hotel for business while in Chicago to try it out )
As for bars? You got a bar on site .. in Harry Carey. Your going to have a bar just outside the hall provided by the hotel and your going to have plenty of bar choices within a short distance from the hotel.
ok...let's skip the bar, the restaurants, the travel problems and get to the real meat of the problem with a new locale....
How are the hookers at this location?

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase. |

The short answer is yes.
But you will not have to go to the Battle Bunker, they will bring it to you at Adepticon.
