The Nautican Army has been updated to draft 3.0, main changes:-

  • - new Army Wide Special "Sea Creature Origins" rule
    - new units (Interceptors, Coral Hunters, Crest Riders, Tripoon)
    - new special character (Vortex) + other character tweaks
    - new character "mounts" (Royal Chariot, The Eternal Wave, The Great White Titan)
    - tweaks to existing magic and several new magic items
    - removal of undead mariners & undead characters

  • Current status : working on background fluff, sourcing suitable models and a draft 3.0 pdf.

We could really use some help playtesting. If you're interested then just play a game and send me the feedback (or even better a battle report which we can publish on the Nautican site).

    Hi folks,

I have just uploaded the first Nautican Army PDF (draft 4.0) for playtesting and feedback.

Click on the army book cover on the Nautican Army list website :- http://naut1.blogspot.com

There's an army poll for those who are willing to provide some quick feedback:- http://naut2.blogspot.com

Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks guys,
    Sigmar

PS. I have credited LtCraggs and 40kEnthusiast from this forum for all the help they have given me, thanks guys.

Hey man, it's been a long time since I looked at this thread. I'll take a look later on today and see how it turned out. Definitely the furthest I've ever seen someone take the "new race in a blog/thread' idea.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Hi 40kenthusiast,it's god to hear from you and I hope you enjoy the Army list. In case you didn't spot it above, I have credited you in the Acknowledgements page for your analysis of the army.

The current emerging theme across several forums is that the army list is a little too complex with regards to Special Rules. I will definitely be addressing this. Also, the will most likely be several unit changes following suggestions I have received thus far.

    Notably:-

Crest Riders - possible reduction in the Breaking Wave charge range.
Wavebreakers - probable +1 increase in pts cost
Sandgangers - possible pts cost increase or restriction in their use
Stingrays - probable pts cost increase (maybe +3) and increase in minimum unit size (maybe 4 or 5)
Tripoon Battery - probable increase in pts cost (maybe +15 or slightly more - undecided)
Interceptors - possible simplification of Angular Attack (which does not seem popular)
The Leviathan - probably awarded regen and some simplification

It's really interesting to see how people's opinions differ. Some say units are "broken" when others say they are fine and some say pts costs for certain items/units need to be increased while others say they should be reduced ! I wonder what feedback GW would have got if they put their draft lists online ?

The army has generally been received well by most while the ultra critical say that it's only 25% complete or needs a total rewrite. I am only responding to reasoned arguments but rest assured that any well thought out suggestions/arguments will make their way into the next army draft.

We think the army is about 80% there (except the background fluff which is a whole project in itself).

I'm looking forward to your comments. All the best,
    Sigmar

PS. I have started collecting all the miniatures and feel quite overwhelmed by the amount of painting I have on my hands ! Also, it's been quite expensive so far because a lot of the minis are metal, barring the Trident Guard, Interceptors, Crest Riders, Coral Hunters and Sandgangers which are GW plastic Saurus, Temple Guard, Skinks x 2 and (in my army) Crypt Ghouls for sandgangers.

    Thanks very much Anshal.

Reading the reponses on various Warhammer forums it seems that we still have quite a bit of balancing work to do but it's a really fun army to battle with.

Wow, that's a pretty impressive list. Good job! It seems like everything has a million rules with it, though, which might get confusing when/if playing them.

    Thanks very much plusARGON.

I've been trying to trim down the special rules a bit. Don;t forget that all new army books can look a bit overwhelming to start with. I'll be tidying it up a bit more though so please check back.

I now have nearly all of the miniatures for the army and will post pics on my design notes site for anyone interested (they're not painted yet but I'll be posting pics of the modeling process from start to finish):-

Thanks for following the project guys.

Please keep the feedback rolling in, esp. if you spot anything wrong or... "broken" - gulp !

I can imagine that this is a huge task, I commend you for that! I will defiantly keep checking back. Those Weresharks are pretty awesome, plus that model is great!

That is a cool idea but it would be loads of effort.

    Hi spamandchips - great handle

It has indeed been quite a bit of effort so far and I haven't even glued and painted the minis yet. If you're interested in seeing my army construction progress then I'm posting pics on my design notes blog here:-

Nautican Army Miniatures and Design Notes

I've posted photos of all the latest miniatures that I've just received and some more will be going up at the wekend, giant crabs no less - hopefulyl fully painted

    thanks for the comment,

I've made a bit of an error. I thought the Komodon miniatures had a base size of 25mm but they are in fact 20mm so I'll be adjusting the profile of the Wave Breakers.

I've posted the details on the Nautican Army News thread here:-

    Apologies,

Thanks RiTides, I like the look of him. He might work as a quirky special character.

Thanks for letting me know and thanks for following the project,
