Aren't you missing one required member of a Lord's minimum retinue?

Going to ground is great in KP scenarios. Think of it this way, if you've already lost your unit to shooting, go to ground. You don't have a great chance, but even one model staying can be the difference.

I never go out without Cameonline now. If you go to ground in average cover, it is a 2+ save against any weapon. Its hard to complain about that!

Even if you landed some unfortunate drop troops in the open, going to ground gets a 6+ cover save which becomes a respectable 5+ because it activates camo.

The Sisters provide much-needed staying power for holding objectives and against 3+ save units you can burn a faith point to make wound rolls of '6' AP1, which is absolutely incredible with two flame templates.

The Inquisitor Lord provides much needed anti-psyker defences with his Daemonhunters hoodie, and mystics parked next to a Demolisher makes any unit think twice about dropping in close.

Schaeffer/Kage are a troop and HQ slot on the cheap, and by dropping in all my other infantry I give enemies very, very little to shoot at that isn't AV12+.

In kill point scenarios I just go for tabling my opponent and honestly, drop guard are more survivable than you'd think with the ability to provide each other cover saves and go to ground.

It's not my full list, it's what the lists I run tend to contain, although admittedly there aren't many points left over when you tally all of that up.

I think the point is that since the Command Platoon is a mandatory choice in a Guard army, both Last Chancers and an Inquisitor Lord can't be taken in the same list.

sourclams: Have you ever run into another list using Mystics? Do you tend to drop long and wait for your tanks to kill the Inquisitor or would you rather bite the bullet and drop straight into the mix?

Against an Inquisitor Lord in the open I'd go for the kill. You can only throw so many wounds on a minimal mystics squad before he's de-mystified. Against an Inquisitor Lord in a Raider like I regularly do I'd try to drop meltas on top of him and go for the kill. The size of a land raider means that you can get pretty good cover in most situations, and if you're throwing down 2+ squads you should feel pretty good about your odds of killing it and taking him down later imo.

Exactly. Since there are non-Last Chancer elements in the army, the Command Platoon is required, yet both HQ slots are already filled. Ergo, an illegal list. There is no way to take Schaeffer and an Inquisitor in the same list. It cannot be done.

Re Mystics, I use them myself and have played in tourneys against other Daemonhunter or IG players who included them in their army. But since I use only a few drop troop units it doesn't do much aginst me. If possible, I'll try to take out the Inq/mystics before my drop troops show up, if I can't, then they go somewhere relatively safe (ie drop long).

Sweet candied nipples. Some people are getting very confused and I'll try to remedy that here:

HQ:
Command platoon (bare bones)
Inquisitor Lord (2x mystics, 1x familiar), psychic hood
OR
Colonel Schaeffer with 6-10 Last Chancers with plasma guns

Inquisitor Lord is for killing lash lists and deep strikers, Schaeffer is for killing monster lists or light vehicles.

It's what my lists tend to feature, not an exhaustive print out.

Sourclams, thanks for explaining a bit more in depth that these are optional units that you sometimes include. I'm more of the build a single list and play it all the time type myself, comes from playing in lots of tourneys I guess.

Yes, that would be a possibility. But looking at what he had posted, ie Inq Lord (ergo not an Elite) and 3 x Hardened Vet squads (filling all Elite slots), your proposed combo was not an option. Look, main reason I brought it up is that there are players out there who think that taking Schaeffer negates the need for a Command Platoon, even if taking non-Last Chancer elements. Just wanted to clear the air on that. Nuff said?
