When I played Stelek the game started like this. I introduced myself and asked him what he would like to do about the terrain(move it, place it or leave it). He wasn't really saying anything for awhile and I had to ask several times. Once we got things going I complimented him on his Eldar army list article that I found had some interesting ideas I wanted to try. He ate that up and started to warm up to me. I sent my army on a hopeless charge against his Inquisitor gunline and as he killed more of it he got cockier and started to kind of screw with me a little. At one point he asked me how many wounds a Wraithlord had, I said 3, he said "Are you sure?". Since this was pretty inane I could only respond by repeating the question to him. I think he was shocked that I swung the KPs back around to 6 to 6 at the end and so we tied. In his mind he probably still considered it a win since he had about 275 more VPs than me. While walking to the elevator I heard his tell someone on the phone he got 5 wins and I smiled. Somoene else mentioned that to me so I guess he was proud of himself.

I would have given Stelek a 7-8 probably but I automatically max everyone because I figure life is where they will be penalized for their poor attitudes. I just want to compete and have a good time at the convention. I don't have time to judge people's armies and attitudes when I know full well how easy it is to be misunderstood(he wasn't fun to play against) or just plain hated on(army comp).

It has been theorized by some that he is a pathological liar. Anyone who knows about his stellar GT record that stretches over the years will understand why this is a reasonable deduction. Whoever said that on the Podcast reminded them of the Comic Book guy from the Simpsons is right, he just has less panache.

Well no one believed a DH list could be competitive. I made my best faith effort. Sadly, few psykers showed up. Probably because marine librarians got the first nerf (instant death + force weapons = another GW overcompensation) and will be getting a second nerf in the marine codex (look, all the powers suck!).

GW calls VP wins "wins" because there are no ties unless you also tie on VP's. That's the whole point. I did ask the judges what was considered a win.

I could have won by charging everything at your Avatar instead of letting him run around my lines, but I really did feel like a giant when I broke the sword on your Avatar and I didn't want my 'must win' side to come out since I really did want everyone to have a fun game and I couldn't see how yours was any kind of fun (I roll dice, you lose a squad...then I break your FW model...yeah). I hope that doesn't anger or offend you.

Oh and there are more than 3 colors.

I did say something. You weren't looking and didn't hear me. Every time I came back from that horrible casino my voice was toast for a few minutes.

The reason I warmed up wasn't because you said something nice, it was because the night before you were a at the game with Marc. Or did you think I'd forgotten?

I was considering asking for a new opponent, if you really want to know. I decided against it.

You're right, I was pretty silly about the Wraithlord. I kept looking at the Avatar when you were answering me and thinking you had to have 4.

GW changed the scoring. There is no way to get a 'draw' without actually tying in the VP system too.

And yes, I'm a pathological liar. It makes me feel better inside. :S

I guess my first impression of you was indeed the correct one.

Not sure if my other friends really can, they're not internet forum geeks.

In your opinion Stelek (and keeping in mind this is from your point of view) how many of your opponents would you say were seasoned tournament veterans, and how many were relatively unexperienced players? I can't speak to GT experience, but a lot of times I end up playing one or two relatively newer players in tournaments.

Only 1 was inexperienced, but he accounted for himself just as well as the other guys. He was my first game. I helped him as much as possible, he was literally shaking with how nervous he was. He did well in later rounds, from what he was telling me. Quite a nice guy, like most of my opponents.

I actually looked for Stelek (Andrew) while I was playing. Unfortunately most of my games went long so I didn't get to talk to him. But from the help he gave me with my Ard Boyz BA all JP list and other observations he seems like someone I'd drink a beer with.

In answer to the question about the Demon list: That was my buddy Dan's list. He ran -
2 x5 Demon Bloodcrusher units
3 Soulgrinders (I believe)
1 DP
Multiple units of Bloodletters

He's been playing that list or variants for quite sometime now. He also won the doubles tourney the night before with John Hermann. Both of them are no strangers to the circuit. So they represented the local Dark Tower gamers well.

I was dodging around the hall, most of my games were done with an hour plus to spare...and the casino smoke hell made me wander around the fantasy side and stare in wonder at the armies there.

Painted ranks is one thing.

Beautifully painted 5x6 ranks...now that's something else.

Oh and Anthony Daniels telling the US players how not to cheat and be better men, man that always made me giggle.

and brian, stelek can be an ass at times, but when it comes to info on gaming stelek is pretty helpfull.

I was a turn away from playing Marc on table 1 in game 5 - that's how well the Immo-heavy list went (and he did not want to face all those flamers!).

Between you and me....marc is no stranger to playing against flamers...he also runs a sisters list much like yours and mine.

Wasn't trying to imply that me playing Marc would've been an auto-win. Far from it. He played two games (4 & 5) where he basically got beat - but because he paid attention to the mission objectives ended up with 20-3 victories both times. His play certainly impressed me.

just a quick note while im here, got a tourney comming up soon, need a 2k ork list that will work in most situations, so plenty of speed, large mobs, a bit of fire power (lets face it, orks aint no robin hood with thier BS) and generally well balanced.

any ideas?

First, the best way to get help on lists is to post your own to the army lists forum, and then let people tear it apart.

Second, Orks are quite possibly the shootiest army in the game. Crappy BS aside, the sheer volume of fire they can put out makes them vicious.

cent, my dex is arriving soon, ordered it monday.
but i have the tourney comming up in 2 weeks, so i need to start ordering stuff now so i have time to paint it and get it ready, and without the ork dex in my hand it makes life hard to make a list.

i am torn to weather i should go for an all out shooty army, a nice balanced one, or trukks flying eveywhere dropping boyz off and plenty of mega armour.

Start a thread in the tactics forum.

And regardless of the win, lose or draw, apparently WC_Brian didn't have an enjoyable experience, compounded by the fact that his expensive forgeworld model was broken by his opponent. Can ya blame him?

If you're going to give a person a 10 in Sportsmanship in the tourney, then don't come back to the forums and proclaim that person a jerk... you're making yourself look hypocritical - no matter the reasoning. By all means, give him a 6 and come tell how the new checklist is broken because you couldn't give him any lower. Just don't give a 10, then say he's a douche.
