Building off of thisand the Waaaagh idea, perhaps the amount of Squiggoths depends on the tastes of the Warboss. Becasue they are the "focus" of the Waaagh, a Warboss who favors Squiggoths might cause spores to have a greater chance of producing them, while a more "advanced Warboss would not.

Perhaps Squiggoths are merely unchecked squigs who grow rapidly. Feral orks would be more likely to embrace the natural flow of an Orkoid societies path, whereas a large WAAAGH would need more food, therefore the squigs simply get eaten before they can grow?

ill try and dig out the fluff
but from what i know:
Squigs and squiggoths both possess very similar DNA, but are not the same thing, like orks they are also grown from plants / spores.
not sure when a squig stops growing, but size's seem to range from attack squig and oiler squig up to the size of gobbler (O&G special character)

I've always thought they should say they were originally a slave-race of the Eldar, thus explaining how they got to be all over the place.

Weren't they created by the old ones as a slave species? I've not read the Necron Codex so am not sure of details.

No, they were engineered by a race that the orks refer to as the "Brain Boyz"
I haven't read the codex for a while but I believe the Brain Boyz created the orks as they knew their race was dying out and were looking for a way to continue their legacy. Only it went a little wrong lol

The Brain Boyz are what the orks call the old ones.

I think they weren't created to keep on their legacy, but to protect them. Thing is: in the end it was the Ork spores which killed the branboyz. Or at least I heard that somewhere from an older gamer.

Orks were created by the Old Ones to fight for them against the c'tan.
Just remember, every time you get beaten by orks, you're getting beaten by advanced fungus.

I'd agree, GorkaMorka is the most detailed on ork reproduction/recolonization that any other Ork codex. In fact i think it's the only book that mentions spores and the rate of spore to ork to spore ratio to determine what is going to be produced..

Well, it's not the only book to mention spores, but probably the spore to ork ratio.

exploding orks.... thats new lol. but yea they were created for protection. not as slaves to the eldar, they were around before the eldar were the rules of everything. in the new dex it even says that "some" think that the brain boyz mutated and whittled down into the snotlings. i dunno about that, but the brain boyz deffinetly made the orks right an propa! its nearly impossible to destroy the orks completely from a planet.

The ork are half fungs, half animal. thay produce by spores and that is why it is extreemly hard to drive orks off a planet, because the spores are still there.
