I think I ultimately agree with the idea that they're a separate bucket, too. Maybe that they cost something different in points is enough to make them different in "game terms." As opposed to having models that are kneeling or have their bolter raised or lowered, for example.

But same game effect =/= same in game terms. A character wearing artificer armor with a storm shield, is not the same group as a character in terminator armor with a storm shield, even when both are hit and wounded by a warscythe, which negates all of the stated equipment. Same game effect, NOT the same in game terms as defined.

True enough, but that doesn't invalidate my example. The rules don't say to group wounds according to how each model and it's wargear can affect the game. They say to group wounds according to what wargear each model is carrying.

It does invalidate it, actually. They are different in games terms. One can do something that the other ones can't - if not at that moment, it can affect the game differently at a later point.

There are examples you can use, but that one is not good.
