Not to mention, with shoota boys you are stopping to shoot then make your charge, but so far we haven't even considered the extra possible wounds inflicted by your mobs of slugga boys' pistol fire.

The pistols aren't much, but every now and again you get lucky. Even against marines.

Not to sound like a suckup, but the guy who won LVGT was using 3x30 squads of Shoota boyz with Big Shootas on foot. You're making it sound like Shootas are inferior to Sluggas because you trade 1A to shoot twice at 18'' when it's the other way around. The "shoot x2 at 18'' makes those 30 boyz something else other than "you run into CC or you're doing it wrong" boyz. Most of the time those Shootas can actually do something in turn 1, unlike running Sluggas. And they can do something when holding an objective. And they get to use their Heavy Weapons more than once. And they aren't easy prey for faster assaulters. Etc.

If anything, you're losing against MEQ because for a 1800pts list, you're not bringing enough mass to make a difference. At 1500 you should already be taking a bare minimum of 90 boyz if you're footslogging. Nobs? No. No Lootas? No. 5 Burnas? NO. 20 Foot Sluggas? WTF?

Try a packful of Shootas with KFF Mek and two units of Lootas and you should start to see a difference. THEN you add more stuff.

and i say the klaw is worth it every time.

Absolutely worth it every time, just not the point of the whole squad.

I don't know what I'm making it sound like, but I do know what I said, and what I said was that the debate is still open on Shoota vs. Slugga.

Shooting on the way in is certainly valid, and if the other guy is trying to back up to avoid you, it's even more valid. But you're STILL trying to get into CC.

Shootas, Sluggas, whatever. What's not really up for debate is that you're looking to make it to CC.

Oh I'm not discounting their usefulness at all. In fact I eventually plan to typically have a mob of 30 boyz dedicated to being shootas as part of my 90 boy core (just got 10 shoota bitz in the mail today! ^_^).

My units are strange I know, but as i stated originally most of my stuff isn't built yet. I've got 15 lootas in the works and as of yesterday another 40 boyz waiting to be built. The purpose of me asking most of these things is to figure out if I'm working in the right direction.

So far I think I'm doing ok, but the glaring fault seems to definitely be in that I've outgrown my 60 ork strong 1k list.

One thing I have been debating over was if I should convert my full army (let's just say 90 since that seems to be the magic number) core of boyz into all shootas. Personally I think a mixture would be preferred, but it helps to know the specifics of the pros and cons to each set up.
