Septic: it's funny you suggest that because I was actually talking with a friend about do IG. I might make that like a second army later on. I've always wanted to do a shooting oriented army and guard certainly has that covered. Plus, I really like some of the models.
wuestenfux: I'm sure doing something like that would be competitive, but it doesn't seem like it'd be much fun only having half of an army between 2 types of models. It really wouldn't allow for much of a variety.
Wuestenfux, do you ever use defilers? If so, do they make their points back for you?

Yeah, I admit that half of the army consisting of 2 types of models is a bit boring, but absolutely competitive.
Defilers? I did, but was not impressed.

Yea Xav, that's something I hold extremely important...I think some people forget and try and make 40k like a sport or something.
I'm not sure how I'd try the defiler...it seems an extra cc weapon would be useful for the price. You could move shoot the battle cannon as you work up the field and eventually have the extra attacks in hand to hand.

ive found reaper and extra cc weapon is realy effective, and people make 40k seem like a sport and like you have to win,i dont care when i loose because i have fun, thats how you should play 40k.

nids are still good. like everything else in 5th (which is a big difference from 3rd btw) nids need a bit of rethinking to make them good. combat tau, while amusing, would be downright awful. demons are fun but to get all the good stuff will cost your wallet dearly. orks are all the rage at the moment. they are fun to play and quite good, but if you want to have something a bit more special then maybe not.
Almost no one in my gaming circle plays Orcs... (maybe they're still putting them all together as I know quite a few got some via black reach). Anyway it seems to be the least played for me... and as you don't seem to mind large number of models, sounds like it's a good fit!
