Spot on. The idea that all faiths are created equal might be appealing, but there is a pretty clear sense in which one's belief system impacts everyday choices.

I know a guy who isn't voting for Obama because he believes Obama is a Muslim, which isn't his complaint in and of itself. His problem is that we are Christian country and you can't have a Muslim running a Christian country.
Christian country? Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli disagrees.

If Obama worshipped the little gremlin that turns the light on/off in your 'fridge but is still the best man of the two for the job, what are you gonna do? Vote McCain?
For the record, I hate them both....and thats from a Texan.
This is the same country that thought Catholic President = Pope in charge.

Okay, let's kindly allow Texas to become it's own country, then build a mile-high wall around it. Oh, and quietly loot Fort Hood first.

Texas CAN become its own country again whenever it chooses to. I find it funny that the only state legally allowed to secede from the union is now one of the few that will never want to.

Well, I believe there was an issue of a trial on the merits of that back in 1860 or so. If I remember correctly the crack legal team of Grant, Sherman, and Sheridan's argument was found to be more persuasive in equity than the documents themselves.
Beside's you're all just jealous of our Tex-Mex...

My take on the religious litmus is;
Not being of a particular faith may not exclude you becoming the President but how your faith effects your judgement is open game.
Since many of the Founders were deists, I think they were mostly protecting themselves. Simply stating 'I'm an atheist' should not exclude you from the office, as an atheist you may have many views on morality (Perhaps a humanitarian, perhaps a sadist). If someone states they are an OT christian however...you damn right that's open to questioning!

That might be kind of hard since a ton of the folk in the military come from Texas (some states have a large number of folks in the military Texas being one of them). Alot of folks join to see the world and then after their first tour go right back home (Texas).
So if Texas were to leave the Union, hypothetically, then the State would probably ask the military within the state borders wether it wanted to stay or go. Then it would ask members serving outside the state if they wanted to stay with the US or go with Texas. I'm pretty sure (using the Ukraine as an example) that a good portion of the military hardware would stay within the state as well. But that's purely hypothetical and not something I ever had an conversation over massive quantities of tequila and Miller light sometime in the early 90's.
