Done a bit more on the quartermaster but not alot, been busy with other things recently...

Started work on the chest but as you can see, very early days yet!

Also, here's a pic of my workspace at the moment. It's a bit of a mess just now, organised chaos I like to think, but its not usually this bad!

More soon, I promise!

Cheers,

wow CMD... you are my hero. Can sculpt great and your brush skills are elite. AWESOME work!

I try to sculpt but I always mess it up. I just dont know the process.. I always try to form and sculpt from the start instead of doing what I think everyone else does... GS basic form/ let harden/ more GS/ rough detail/ let harden/ etc...

Do you guys GS in small layers? I still dont know how people GS cloaks and stuff..

TEACH ME CMDANTE! I WILL PAY! lol

Thanks for your comments mate.

For sculpting, it is very much as you say, first stage I usually rough out the basic shapes (keeping them a bit smaller than I want the final thing so it leaves room for future layers) and begin to define the depth in any creases etc. Second stage, begin to flesh out the details (e.g. raised areas of folds, cheeks etc) and so on. Working in small stages ensures you end up with good proportions and nicely defined details, it also means your less likely to smudge details with your fingers while sculpting!

The only downside is it takes a while waiting for things to cure between stages but this can be sped up with a "sculptors oven" which is basically a lamp that gets hot and an old, clean, empty metal can:

Hope that helps. I hope to do some more painting on the quartermaster this weekend.

I love the coat also.

Cool german greens are very nice for Death Korps. I wanted to do a Flecktarn-ish style, but it didn't work... So I just settled for simple Sand/Blonde overcoats.

I think predominantly lighter colours on the coats set off Death Korps nicely.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

I dunno...

CMDante wrote:Yep, three washes later with toothbrush and warm soapy water and hand painting the undercoat still isn't doing the job so its going to have to be sprayed.

Maybe a bit late but instead of warm soapy water, try mixing in a little kitchen floor cleaner, tried it on my titan princeps and it worked great!

I got around the mould release by first washing with warm soapy water, then a bath in turps and toothbrush scrub, then again in hot soapy water then a quick rinse under the cold tap to get the soap off. Lengthy but it seems to have done the job.

I have recently purchased a krieg commander (got him off ebay seperate from the command set), along with another commissar (who will be converted - idea thread coming soon) and some special "good" inquisitor gang members.... all will be revealed soon!

Damn nice, the quartermaster is a nice model, and you´re really doing him justice. Looking forward to see how you finish off the set.

Interesting choice of colors. I tend to stay away from "German colors" since people some times get upset, but it really works on this model.

Also, you´ve done a great job on getting the colors to feel more like 40K.

I think people getting upset about "German colours" on models is nonsense to be honest. How is it any more offensive than a scale model of an ss trooper or German panzer with swastika's etc on it? If anything it should be less so!

The DKoK have clearly been inspired in elements by WWII German uniform yet no one complains about the models unless they are painted in a certain way?

Sorry, just something I had to get out of my system after seeing people lambasting someone for painting a flecktarn krieg scheme on warseer.

Progress painting-wise has unfortunately been quite slow laterly. Busy at work and generally lacking motivation on my time off. I'm going to try and get back into the swing of things in the next week or so though.

Totally agree on the color issue.

I do think the krieg models are more WWI´esque, since their helmets and great coats seem more in line with the soldiery of that time.

Also the entire concept, of advancing lines of infantry hitting fortified positions again and again to force a breakthrough is very evocative (to me) of WWI.

Never mind though, in 40K DKOK are an army to be reckoned with in coolness factor, and that´s what I like about them.

Who ate all the Cadbury's Roses?!

Good stuff. I second all the positive feedback here, and kudos for nailing both Imperial and Khornate forces with such aplomb.

I really should be spending my time more constructively.

Lol, the family did last Christmas, except all the toffee ones, theyre still sitting, uneaten in a different biscuit tin somewhere. The Roses tin is now used for storing paints, brushes and general modelling supplies.

Just thought I'd point out, the tupperware in the bottom left is my home made wet pallette.
