It's a pity the picture of no.8 is so blurry. It looks like it might be a really neat conversion if you could see it properly.

I know it's not in the letter of the rules but could no.8 be allowed to enter a revised picture?

I would gladly substitute his current pic, but the fact is, he just doesn't have the ability to take a better pic right now.

To be fair, painting was not a requirement of entry and should be ignored in voting.

Hopefully members will post pictures of their painted models when they are finished.

Wow! This are really cool!

Looks like the votes have gone in favor of one of the more complex "harley" conversion.

I for one like the guy with the windshield. reminds me of the "KIOWA WARRIOR" that the US Army still uses as I was in an Army Aviation unit for several years..

Great Job everybody!

I particularly liked the dirigible and the Harley, but I didn't realize at that point that I could vote for two, so I voted for the harley. I think I might know who's it is too, although I'm not sure...

I think that you can see the results from the vote thingie at the top, but I'm still wondering who did what. Tons of really nice work done on these, it would be shame to not know who to praise for these conversions....

Am I the only one who finds the planes to be breaking the rules (in my mind)? They look great, but wouldn't you create different rules for those? Which makes them NOT koptas?

I see no reason that a plane can't use the same rules as the normal Kopta. People have used all sorts of things as Deffkoptas, including planes, blimps, rokkits, antigrav vehicles...

Sorry about the delay posting the final results of the contest, the holidays kind of got in the way! But without further ado, here are the results:

The final judges' tallies have been completed and the winner (exactly as with the public vote) by unanimous decision was entry #6, the "harley" Kopta entered by Teek. Congrats to Teek for his amazing model and his win. I fear his amazing abilities make him the instant front-runner for any Mekboy challenges we do in the future!

FYI, the final judges' voting went as follows:

First Place: Entry #6 by Teek.
Second Place: Entry #2 by Thalor.
Third Place: Entry #9 by Pipboy101.
Fourth Place: Entry #10 by Cypher871.
Fifth Place: Entry #1 by Zinge.

Congratulations to everyone who entered, you really all did an amazing job! All of the entrants screen names have been added to their pictures, so scroll back up to the first post in this thread to see a full list of who entered which models.

To see more amazing hi-rez pictures of Teek's winning entry, you can view them HERE in the Dakka Gallery.

A well-deserved win by Teek!

His Harley is a superb scratch-build conversion that retains the core of the original Kopta and is very Orky in conception.

Congratulations to all the entrants. Every model has a great idea in it.

Well done teek, I knew as soon as that image loaded that I wouldn't be taking 1st place. I was hoping for top five so getting second is awesome! Thanks to everyone that made this contest happen, organizers, contestants, and voters alike; it really got me to expand beyond 'weapon swaps' and try something new.

I plan on further converting my plane, adding some bullets like Cypher871's, and clipping and plating the stabilizer rotor like BigToof suggested. I had thought to do that originally, but I entered kinda last minute and wore myself out. I'll post pics of it when I get it painted, that may be some time though.. I have a lot on my painting plate.

Thanks everyone! The amount of attention this contest has drawn has been impressive. Thanks are due to the organizers, sponsors, judges, entrants, and everybody who voted and made this first mekboy challenge a success!

I had a blast working on my entry, from concept to finishing touches. Getting a chance to set the brush aside and showcase knife and glue was a great change of pace. There are a lot of great ideas and tons of creativity in this thread, and I look forward to seeing what everybody can come up with next time.

Thanks again, everyone!

Congratulations Teek, a well deserved win I think. You obviously put a great deal of time and effort into your conversion. A big thanks to the DD admins for giving us all the opportunity to 'show off' our conversion talents and well done the rest of you for some inspired models. I particularly liked the 2 Aeroplane entries and actually voted for both of them and Teeks entry too.

As for my entry I was kinda going for a Huey Cobra look which I think I managed to achieve whilst still making it look Orky...I did leave it till the last few days before the competition finished to finally get my butt in gear and actually make a start on my entry (despite the best of intentions and making the initial 'cuts' weeks before hand Work just got in the way). If I had to do it again I wouldn't bother with the paint job...it was very quick and only really to help show off some of the detail (which Zinge did just as well with a whitewash).

I fully intend to finish the paint job properly but if any of you would like a better look at the model here's the link to my gallery:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-10158-977_Deff%20Kopta%20Competition.html

I must pass on my compliments to everyone that voted for my entry but especially to Malika2 for his kind comments.

...the conversion of #10 looks really subtle, as if it isn't a conversion at all and as I say: the best conversions are those that don't look like conversions at all!

Subtlety is my thing in conversions...I like to make them look like they were originally designed the way they finally look. Compliments such as yours are worth a hundred wins, so thank you very much.

I very much look forward to pitting my talents against you all in future competitions...keep on convertin'.
