The red was washed with the sepia. it does look a little bright in the pics tho. IRL theres some definition to it.

How in the world did you get the back plates to line up on the Carnifex? The middle portion on all 6(!) of mine always pop up out of alignment, standing a few millimeters above the side pieces.

@flatlineaz : I'm a professional painter, but I'm having trouble duplicating the results you've achieved with your Tyranids. I'm trying it out for a client who wants a crap-ton of 'Nids painted in a short amount of time with nothing more than a table-top quality.

Your guideline seems to be:

-Prime white
-Paint armor plates/bones Space Wolves Grey
-Wash grey areas with Badab Black
-Wash white areas with Gryphonne Sepia

For some reason, using those instructions, I end up with something that looks like white with stains on it. What's the consistency of your wash? Are you using it straight from the bottle? Is there a medium in play; or are you adding a bit of water? Did you use multiple coats?

I love the new GW washes, but using them straight over white seems to give me a result that allows a lot of white to show through.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words. for the carnifex back pieces i just push down REALLY hard and glue em in place. the top four spore stacks are usually good about being in place but its the last two and the end of the middle plate piece that is out of whack. for that instance i just shave the plastic to the same level as the rest.

Brass- im sending you a PM

nice work flatlineaz, especially on the nids
kinda sad to see that salamanders gone though

for carnifex backs, guys, i usually do it from front to back, putting some glue on, holding it down, the spraying some zip kicker on...
do this little by little and when you get to the end they should all be straight in line

I'm really enjoying this log, the wash speed is very inspiring - I'm trying to think how I could apply it to future projects. Love the FOW brits as well. What static grass are you using for them?

I really love this, I might try something similar on my orks. Not sure how it would work with clothing though.

Just a question, did you water down the washes at all?

The GW washes are best used straight out of the bottle, without any thinning or medium. It took veteran painters like myself a long while to accept that fact, but they seem to work best when nothing is done to them.

Can I just second that! I've just been having a go at my new marine chapter and was going to try something like your marines there but don't seem to be having much success. I really like the dark sandy colour. Is there any chance you could let us know how you did it? Please please please...grovel grovel.

The dreadnought looks especially great with that scheme.

Sure thing guys.. I will see about putting up a step by step guide for both the nids and the marines here in the next day or so. I also finished the screamer killer fex (except for basing) so ill have some pics of that up as well. Stay tuned

as a nid player, ive been trying to figure out how to get a good looking light tan-cream skin tone on my little critters and yours looks great, especially for such a small amount of painting time! I await the guide with baited breath

Sweet! I have always wanted to do a Tyranid army but never had the patience to paint one... so you will definitely help my dream . Looking forward to it!

Taking a break from nids (absence makes the heart grow fonder ^_^ ) I decided to start into the titan again. I broke out the dremel and once the main pieces were cleaned i started to see how I could chaosify the beast. The first and easiest was to start with the chaos spikey vehicle sprue. After about an hour i ended up with this

The pipes and extra bits are from the Imex chemical and power plant sets. Far from being done (or even symmetrical) what are your guys thoughts on it. Its missing something but im not sure what as its in such an early stage.

C&C encouraged

stay tuned....

Here's how my Termagant turned out with the same scheme. It's just a snap-together 'Nid with no filing or mold line cleaning.

I've started doing this, only slightly cleaner, for people who want commission work as well.

EDIT: I'd also be interested to know how you did the "ammo sack" on the Barbed Strangler of your Carnifex.

OK time for some updates, After much deliberation ive decided to sell my FOW brits to focus on other things like my 40k and infinity. I love the game and will probably pick up a US armored company later on in the year. The Buyer for the brits however also asked that i finish painting them and commisioned me to paint some other units for it. so in a fit of painting madness i finished up the last 4 tanks and rest of the rifle platoon.

Churchill VII's (Tank squadron command)

Churchill Platoon (2 VI's and a IV HQ)

Rifle Company Command and 2iC

Rifle platoon

I was also able to squeeze some time onto my screamer killer

The base isnt finished but you get the idea

Excellent work, as throughout this thread!

Any chance of that step by step guide? I'm sorry to be cheeky, but I just love the look of those marines!

There was no blending or grading. It's just GW washes over white primer. I'm not saying this to be contrary, just to let you know that it's easy, and you can achieve it too!

It is easy.. almost like cheating. Some may look down on it but if what you want to accomplish is a table top army in minimal time its great. Very similar to dipping. As for the Step by steps i should have one for both nids and marines done this weekend and posted early next week.

stay tuned!

For the Titan, I'd say it could probably use some small plasticard strips over nearly every edge, with rivets along the strips every centimeter or so. I think this will help it look quite a bit more Chaotic, especially when you get the rest of the big details finished up.

Nice work though.

Very much looking forward to this. I was thinking about making a 1k point army just so I could use this method... I've always wanted a nid army! *dreams*
