If you haven't noticed, the world economy is crap right now

It is now. It wasn't for most of 2008.

Untrue. If you had your ear to the ground 6-9 months ago, the recession was obvious. I do hiring, and it was obvious to us. It's only recently that it's become obvious to everyone.

This is actually an interesting issue. Because what it does is start to eat away at the markets of the secondary businesses that have sprung up around 40K and WFB supplying those same bags and accessories.

GW has decided to take a bite out of that market and are attempting to become a single source shop for everything that gamers need to play their games.

From an accounting perspective it makes sense but I can't imagine that it is making them a lot of friends in the rest of the industry.

Um, when has GW *ever* been about making friends in the industry? GW has always been as vertically integrated as possible. Picking up the counters is no great change.

Sold to almost the exact same customers they had before. Its the same business model they have had for years and it isn't growing the company. Put out all the sweet models you want but if new gamers are playing WM instead of 40K or WFB then what good are sweet new models?

How do you know its the same customers?... and how do you establish that the new players are picking up other companies instead?
GW positions itself not only to gamers but to a hobby comunity also... sweet models are good for all... and I maybe wrong but I do think sweet models also sell the game.

They indeed finally did something that people have been telling them to do for years. But this is what they should have done in 2006 and 2007 and not now.

OK? but werent you making a editorial about 2008?

I do get the feeling that for you GW is busted for doing something good as is busted for doing something wrong... maybe its just me and the folks on this thread hehehe.

I agree with most everything that has been brought up. Polonius, JWDD, Novarro, Shuma, Reds8n and Whitedragon all made good points as did you Pixlegeek.

It just seems that you gave GW a harsher review than every other company despite the fact that GW is and always has been the industry leader, producing the best kits, coming out with new and innovative products and offering great deals in gaming now with apocalypse formations and the awesome starter set. There is alwasy room for improvement, but overly harsh critiscim does not help anyone, especially when a company that nearly tanks gets a kinder review than a company that is growing and innovating.

I just don't see how any company outshone GW this year? Who else offered their customers as much? No one even came close as far as I can tell, not even PP.

But by all means, even if we disagree with you on points, please keep writing!
