However with the rumors/discussions kept at a minimum at this point with the three month window, what exactly is the reason to go to a GD again?

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

When the GW designers look at the army lists, there is probably a lot of teeth-gnashing and self-flagellation, to plaintive cries of "Nooo..., they're not supposed to play that way..."

QFT.

I sat in on a seminar Jervis Johnson gave at a UK heat in 2007 where he told the 50 or so of us there that tournament players (remember we were all there to qualify for the 08 final) didn't really play the game the way we were supposed to. Not entirely sure he understood who his audience was at that seminar.

I starting going to Gamesday when I first entered the hobby, about 12 years ago. I liked going because of the I could get a large varity of bits by the pound, which was substantially cheaper. I also liked the fact that they had all the tables set up with various scenarios and armies. I didn't play at Gamesday because I am hyper sensative to having stuff stolen and having to keep up with it all day. The last reason that I liked going was seeing the new releases.

Let's look at where Gamesday is now. I can't buy bits, much less bits by the pound. The scenario tables are basically the same every year with little to no change. I can see all the new stuff online days after the actual event. Hence why I haven't been to Gamesday in years.

I think the dropping of the RTTs will end up hurting Gamesday overall and I don't forsee anything being done to make up for it's loss.

1)the free terrain building tables
2)the free conversion building tables
3)the mass battles everyone can participate in(last year at LA they had baneblades vs ork skull hammas like 30per side)
4)there was a time when the product seminar was actually full of new never before seen pics in the slide show. last year LA was the last stop, and had dark elves in the slideshow.... which had been out for over half a month at that point. I really hope they do better next time there is a games day LA.
5)time to pick at the brains of games developers/sculptors/black library personell (jes goodwin/phil kelly last year and mark harrison the year prior were great to talk to. mark even took the time to roll up some green stuff and show me how to do some simple greenstuff tricks)
6)all the free loot tossed about
7)costume contest (view or participate)
8)forge world table
9)black library table (hello horus rising hardback for $5 us)
10)multiple club run mini games to join in on. LA had a kill teams game where SM scouts had to fight past drones to get up on a forgeworld manta to plant an orbital bombardment beacon because the world was too foggy to target it from orbit. another table was a version of kingof the hill played with all manner of warhammer heros, 2 clubs brought scratch built bloodbowl tables.

I know my gaming group had made plans to build up a 4x4 foam table that was an ogre fighting pit. then paint up an assortment of hero minis and people could pick what hero they wanted and see who was the best pit fighter.

11)golden demon contest (view or participate)

Interesting - a ticket now is only $25, but you have the opportunity to purchase the GD mini for an extra $15.

Techboss - You haven't been in years, so you can't say that nothing has changed. From 07 to 08 there were tons of changes and improvements. Some of them were minor and some of them were quite noticeable. Maybe it's time you come check it out again and see what your missing.

The most successful of these improvements has been the club involvement. GW is now inviting clubs to build and bring events for people to participate in. My only regret in working at the event is not having the time to play on these club tables.

the mini is pictured in the link I put above - it looks like a Chaos Lord for WFB and I'd guess that it's metal.

Clay: I hear ya - though I was able to during break drive the rhino's around on the IFL table, that was a blast! Every year I've seen some really nice club tables that were a lot of fun to play with.

Just extremely busy (and just had a newborn, so I've been out of office). Haven't had time to read forums of late.

Glad to see you around.

I like the reduced price of the GD ticket (25 dollars) with the option to pick up the GD miniature (15 dollars). I am guessing it will be one model per person, to keep the Ebay hounds at bay?

Then it's hardly a GD exclusive at that point, isn't it?

I like the GD fine, never participated in the RTT (pay for the GD ticket AND the RTT ticket? No thanks).

I missed the last one but went to the two prior and always had fun. Brought my wife both times and we both had fun playing around in the conversion contest and terrain building table. Its a show, you get to see cool tables, meet fellow gamers, paint/make some stuff, and meet GW celebs. At $25 I'll probably go again.

*I'm a Kommando so maybe I should actually help out at one of these...*
