Osbad wrote:What scares me about WotR is that Mat Ward designed it. That man has "Random" as his middle name. If Adam Troke had written it, I'd have been a lot happier, but he left and came back in a new role so was no longer allowed to touch it. As it stands, I'll wait and see. "The Alamo", Warhammer Historical's mass combat game that was based on "Legends of the Old West" left me cold. even though I liked LotW a lot, so I'm not holding my breath any. Some of the rumours I hear aren't too inspiring.

Are you sure only Mat Ward worked on it? I'm pretty sure Alessio worked on it too, from the rumours that I read on Warseer a while ago. I doubt that if GW were making a new rules set like this that they would entrust it to some one new (and crazy) like Mat War alone, without the help of others. I'm sure alot of others games designers must have contributed to it to make the rules sound. People like Alessio and maybe even Mark Latham. Yeah, the Alamo sucked, but I'm hoping WOTR is going to be a good one. I suppose it's either going to be really good or really bad. Needless to say, it seems like LOTR has finally reached its maturity and won't be considered as just some lame skirmish game anymore.

Standing right behind you...

...do people still play this game?
Yea i know GW pours enough of their budget into LOTR updates but why is it still here?
Don't get me wrong i loved the books and the movies...but making a tabletop game for it? how hardcore must you be?
Can't they let it go already? Yea, it was a great trilogy of movies but i don't think it's going to be THAT great.

It's like Star Wars. Great movie and novel but they had to go and sell out the company with cheap games, badly produced animated children shows and the 'transformer' toyline. Can't they just let it die peacefully with some glory to hold on to?

Probably is a fun game to play but what's wrong with 40k and Fantasy?

They have to. GW signed a contract so they have to keep working on it to fill there end. Its a very small player base compared to there other games but aperantly some people do play it.

I would think about starting it up but there is no one with in 100 miles that sells it let alone plays ^^

Why would there have to be something wrong with 40k and Fantasy for WotR to do well?

Fantasy and 40k don't have Middle Earth. That's the difference.

I play all GW core games and i love LOTR its fun, quick to play and has a great feel to the game, it lacks the power gamer feel of the others and has a more "game" feel!

Don't knock it till you have tried it

Ps i also love 40K and Warhammer but its nice to have several strings to your bow

^ The same, its probably my favorite of all three core games the only problem being the only store that runs weekly nights for it is an hour away from my house. So I don't get to go as often as I would like.
