Subject: New teaser for WotR on the GW youtube page
I highly doubt anyone would go to the trouble of photo shopping a silly little promo video on youtube. And anyway, who cares? Even if it was it still is an entertaining clip.
And after listening to Worlds End Radio and Podhammer so much I am starting to come around to Lord of the Rings a bit, I hated it at first because it took away White Dwarf time from the games I liked, but everyone I listen to that has played the game says it is fun with simple rules and cheap minis. I may give it a try.

Don't get me wrong, I've been waiting for this for a while. Bought a bunch of LotR stuff when I worked for GW and stashed it for the day WotR finally showed up. Patience has payed off!

Awesome! Plastic ents indeed! Can't wait to do an ent army... I traded my 2 ents off after I heard the rumour, but I kept Treebeard. Man, these new ents are huge! They look pretty inexpensive too.

Are the trays just metal sheets with magnets on the models or something else?

Some of them are thick card or plastic. The cave bases look cool. The last wd used card for some orcs but they didn't go in to it that well. the units look to be groops of 8 figs.

Well I glad some people are excited, but movement trays and new plastic walking trees aren't going to get me playing.
It was an ok promo though. Reminded me of adverts for Star Wars toys in the 80s where they had kids playing with hundreds of storm troopers. Except nobody would buy hundreds of storm troopers in reality and therein lies the problem with WoTR.

Except maybe their clients who already buy Lord of the Rings stuff?
I think the correct argument is that "Nobody who isn't interested would buy hundreds of LotR models" which is true. The same went with Apocalypse. I don't think Apocalypse drew
new 40k fans on the strength of its rules. Apocalypse was for the die hard collector of
lots of miniatures, people who bought lots of extra models for their individual armies.

I'm excited. They're good models and a good rule system. One of the common complaints/criticisms of 40k is the I Go U Go turn sequence. LotR has an integrated turn sequence, and people won't give it a chance. The game is not what was released when Fellowship of the Ring came out - that was a scenario driven game with powerful heroes seeing how many goblins they could chop down. LotR is now a wargame, even with its base rules (which is still more of a skirmish game). I think there's some problems with the army composition - I don't like seeing armies of elite warriors with none of the 'rank and file' troops. Especially since the elite warriors are typically only a few more points than the rank and file, but often are significantly better.
I think they'll have similar experience with WotR as with APOC. Not the total numbers, but I'm sure that sales will go up.

I'm pretty happy that it is coming out. As a long term collector and player of GW's LotR game I have always found myself with far more minatures in my collection then I could ever possibly put on the field.
This will be a welcome addition for me.

What scares me about WotR is that Mat Ward designed it. That man has "Random" as his middle name. If Adam Troke had written it, I'd have been a lot happier, but he left and came back in a new role so was no longer allowed to touch it. As it stands, I'll wait and see. "The Alamo", Warhammer Historical's mass combat game that was based on "Legends of the Old West" left me cold. even though I liked LotW a lot, so I'm not holding my breath any. Some of the rumours I hear aren't too inspiring.
Mind you, over the years I've played in a few multi-player/multi-thousand-point games of LotR (I think the largest included over 3500 models and 52k points at COGS in December 2005, a world record for the game I think) and, and I'm pretty much over seeing the spectacle of a re-enacted Battle of the Pelennor Fields or Siege of Helms Deep. It's kinda funky the first time you see it, but after the 2nd or 3rd time (or 7th or 8th) it gets kind of old.

I feel sorry that LOtr has slowly been turned away from a skirmish game so that gw can sell more models, I do wonder if they will ever produce a skirmish game again.

That actually made me interested in LoTR the game.

Looks good, but it's just more LotRs stuff. I'd love to get into the game, but it seems like a lot of people are all waiting for somebody ELSE to make the major investment before jumping in. I don't see how upping the ante is going to fix that issue.

Yes! 2000 points of Uruk Hai and an entire Gondor Force to collect and paint!!! Freaking awsome!
Eh, the reason for the earlier post is that LotR I find generally gets a lot of hate from the other two sectors of the game. Even though its probably the most user friendly game they have not to mention the cheapest of the big three. Massed combat just makes it so much better, and hopefully 2000 pt battles won't take 6 hours anymore...
