The turbovoter is still just for trusted users - it would be a pain at this stage to have anonymous people just hit 0/0 when voting on every image. Turbovoting also does not prompt users for tags which is not very helpful in the long run, so I'd prefer to keep it segregated a bit for now. In the future I might open it up a bit more, but until then we'll have to make do

The clicking on votes should be a bit more interesting soon as I am going to add in a drop down option for the next image (show this image again with new vote totals, show random image, show next image in gallery, show next image from search results) with appropriate defaults - hopefully, pending system load and complexity!

My beef is that one seems to go through a lot of wip-shots, batrep-shots and all that kind of stuff which is perhaps not meant to be voted on as such when browsing through gallery at random. As those pics are often put up just for making an appearance in forum threads and/or blogs and such, I wish there was a clever way of differentiating the "wip-shots" and the normal stuff (the can be voted on). Perhaps that could be implemented when pictures are uploaded. On the other hand, I don't know if that kind of system is even wanted around if the purpose is to vote on evereything, put it would save me (at least) some time for putting up a load of 0's/n/a's for pictures there is little point in voting on.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

It's probably critical at this point to vote on as many of those as possible. Voting them down is appropriate. Some Batreps are worth points though, especially in painting, and a well uniformed army on a suitable table makes it cool too. Most WIPs are at least worth a modest Coolnes score, if they're not a random piece of wrist, or a blurred pipe with a thingy on the end.

It is just because there are so many unprocessed images from the initial gallery import. Voting them down will take them out of circulation for casual gallery browsing (but they will still be there for people who want to dig them out - which is how it should be!) As time ticks on and more votes are issued, the gallery will get better sorting and WIP and battle report images will be a lot rarer. Each image only needs to be voted down 5 times to disappear from casual browsing.

That number is the (mean) average for the past 5 minutes before the graph was created. The stats update every 5 minutes, then I sync this one stat image here every hour.

I concur. I don't like voting on unpainted miniatures, blurry shots of people's fingers or what have you.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

As for crappy photos, I've learned to enjoy voting them down.

The gallery really awesome and, though I understand the 100 post admission fee for the Turbo Voting, as a bonafide lurker, I wish it wasn't so.

I better just up my post count.

I've done some optimisations recently so it might be ok.... do you think that we should now open up turbovoting to everyone who is registered?

The most votes search is useful for targeting things

http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-search.jsp?sort1=13

and if you change the last number on this search to the number of 5 vote models

http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-search.jsp?p=1&ll=3&auction=0&unapproved=0&coolnesslow=0&coolnesshigh=10&paintjoblow=0&paintjobhigh=10&sort1=13&sort2=0&skip=30&en=&st=&utype=&start=900

You get the string of 4 vote models you can put over the top.

It looks like we've made it on getting everything at least one vote! There's only a difference of 20 at the moment and I've voted on way more than 20 tonight, so I'm guessing the discrepancy is just a time to recalculate thing, or that it's been giving me images that are already voted on. Now just to get all the images, 2, 3, 4 and then 5 votes.....

Yep, we're doing great. I've been trying to do big spurts of a couple of hundred when I get some free time. It'll be fun when the '5 vote' line finally starts to move up.

And for anyone complaining about the amount of WIP/blurry pics, please remember, that the whole point of this big push to get all current images a minimum of 5 votes is because once we get to that point the way the gallery works will actually change.

When that does occur, the way the 'random' filtering protocol works will change. You will then see two images with the highest rating that you haven't viewed yet followed by one random picture that hasn't received five votes yet and then repeat over and over again.

Not only will that mean you'll see good interesting pics 2/3 of the time but it also means that the images that are *just* uploaded will get their minimum five votes very quickly. In other words, from then on out, the gallery voting system will be self-sustaining in that we won't need another 'big push' from people to keep the minimum 5 votes for each new pic, that will just occur naturally with standard random voting of the gallery.

So in short: KEEP IT UP guys!

'Tis a fools game yer playin'. Although there are currently no images without votes, by the next graph update there most likely will be.

Very pleased with the updated advanced-advanced search, though, for helping to weed them out.

Hmmmm... Seems like the two vote line is far harder than the one vote.

I think people were a little more gung-ho to get that first line up to the max, but after that perhaps a bit of the enthusiasm wore off. I know my ability to contribute to the cause has been a bit limited this week as well.

Ultimately we may need some sort of counter that lists how many images you've voted on to spur people onward. Everyone seems to like a little bit of competition.
