Yeah, the last couple nights I've laid in bed thinking, "You know, tomorrow, I just need to bite the bullet and charge the battery on the dremels so I can just grind off the circular portholes and rivets. Then I can just slap a rectangular piece of card over the holes, add some new rivets, and call it side armor." So today I'm charging the batteries for the dremels now with hopes that I can do this later today.

While I appreciate folks ideas for uses for the gunports, I think just armoring over them completely will be easier and look cleaner in the long run.

Okay, so I learned a valuable lesson today - high speed on my newer dremel with a sanding barrel just melts plastic. Must use the slower speed. I discovered this the hard way as I ground down the gunports and associated rivets on those panels. Unfortunately, as the panels were a little difficult to get to with the treads glued on, I also took out some other rivets and sanded some corners I'd rather not have. Good news, is that since this is my prototype, I'll know to just grind those down before I assemble the next one. I cut a couple strips of plasticard and a bunch of rivets and had at it. I wanted to get a quick picture of this, as this is really the last piece of what will be a stock DBM-pattern Hellhound, pre-stowage and customization. So, below you can get a view of the armor plates as is. The other lesson I learned today is that just by adding rivets, you can turn a lackluster conversion into something nicer.

Here's also what it looks like with a little stowage added on the back. I picked up the resin jerrycans at a local model shop for cheap - man, I know why they tell you to wear a mask when you work with resin. Just cutting these little pieces off the sprue stank of gasoline. Oh, and I managed to gash my middle finger with my razorsaw while doing it, too. Ah well, I often say that if you haven't bled while converting a model, your heart wasn't into it. You can also see the white plastic fire extinguisher from the Trans Am kit glued to the top of the turret.

BTW, would it be cliche when I paint this up to name it "Trogdor the Burninator" and paint a little tiny Trogdor on the side?

presuming the rivets on your new side bits roughly match those on the standard Chimera, I think this is a pretty good look, and makes sense from a vehicle design perspective

Yep, all the rivets, both molded on the Chimera, as well as my own are 1mm diameter...although not all of mine are as consistent in height...it's something I'm working on.

It's not the best pic in the world, but I wanted to snap a quick one to show my completed converted Hellhound squadron. I'll be adding some track guards once I take full stock of what I have and possibly a vox to one, depending on what the IG rules wind up looking like, but this is what I'm fielding. Thankfully, they're different enough from a standard HH that I figure if I want to make them all Devil Dogs or Bane Wolves under the new codex, I can do that, too - just so long as they're all of one type that I'm playing.

Next on the project block is finishing up my Demolisher. I've updated the hull lascannon with an IG HW las and the side sponsons with SM Dev plasma cannons. Unfortunately, in the trade I did for it, I didn't get the side armor for the turret, so I'm going to have to figure out how to make some out of plasticard - it's about 3mm thick, though, so I'm looking at having to laminate some card together and then cut it as a unit. Anyone have any other suggestions for how I might do it?

Those are really nice. Part of me would have been tempted to suggest a trailer like the British Crocodile but these are good to. For the Leman Russ tank track extra armour may work. Can't think of anything better than that,

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Yep, those were the track armor I was planning to use. Although none of the rumors over the IG codex mention anything about track guards, so I'm less concerned about them, now.
