hehe, yeah it was just some toy I found. no idea where it came from. I think it was some kind of matchbox/hot wheels play center shaped like a tank. If you're looking to do a similar project I'm sure any large sized tank toy would work well.

With all that room in the middle, perhaps you could use it to actually carry some troops, you just need a removable roof and some cut down foam inserts. I like the intensely gothic look of it, so many scratch-built superheavies tend to look really plain. Can't wait to see more.

just an idea to follow on from warps post.

if you want troops in it, and a nice gothic feel to it then cake decorating shops sell plastic pillars, very gothic looking, and very cheap, they have a hole from top to bottom, meaning you can use a pin system on the roof to connect it on.
that way it can be taken off when needed, keeps the top section in place at all times, and keeps the whole design together.

yeah I might try it On the 2nd floor I'm planning to have an observation deck balcony kinda thing in the front, hanging over the doomsday cannon a little with the big eagle double doors behind it, so 2 pillars on either side of the doors might look cool

Plus it'd be good support. I really like the look of the whole model so far! It's much more 40k than the old epic leviathan. That just looked like a squat vehicle!

Keep up the good work.

I think the old epic one WAS a squat vehicle but I might be wrong.

Anyway here's another update. Been spending a while making the inside stronger with some beams going across the top inside and then adding some armor plating going around the lower part for the walls to sit on top of. Going ot be working on this lower part for a while now and adding some armor plates with rivets and all that stuff.

Now I'm starting to wonder about what to do with the rear access ramp. Here it is with the toy tank's ramp closed...

And here it is opened with some men coming out for scale..

They seem to fit pretty good. In the stats for this thing, its supposed to transport sentinels so you'd think the door would be bigger. I don't own any sentinels and don't plan to get any, so I'm wondering if I should just leave the ramp like that? And then, for that big garage door I was planning above it instead I would model engine things there, pipes, smoke stacks, cables, fuel drums, etc. Wadayas think?

I think the ramp looks good as is, especially if you are not planning any sentinals. Keep up the good work!

You should make the rear a giant boarding ramp. The Leviathan could carry tanks in its hold... some variants had a Battle cannon / Vanquisher turret at the top-front chassis above that giant cannon mounted in the hull... guess the command deck is right underneath it...

the Collosus has the heli pad on top...the Levi doesn't...

Yeah I was planning to have the top cannon, in the datasheet I think it's just a regular russ battle cannon but I'm going to use a baneblade turret but I might change the barrel and use the shadowsword barrel since I will be getting that new kit to build a stormlord, and if I don't get that I'm sure someone I know will be. Plus the fella that runs my local shop said he'd donate some bitz if he has them, probably because he keeps selling out of COD terrain thanks to me

I think I am going to change mine slightly, instead of the traditional Leviathan I'm going to remove the sentinel carrying capacity so the innards will have room to store a lot of ammo, for the Hydra turret that's gonna go on the back I'm going to order the FW hydra platform. I'm just not sure if I want the regular hydra platform (pic) since I won't really be able to use the bitz for the "legs", or the 2 barreled Phaeton pattern one (pic .. I'm guessing if I go with the Phaeton one the whole thing should fit on there. But I like the 4 barrel look of the hydra turret better.

Anyway, I decided to get rid of that giant garage door I was building and just go with the already built in ramp the toy came with and there will be engine components there. I bitz ordered 2 dreadnought power packs with the smoke stacks from the warstore and I think when I get that FW turret I will also order their little power generator and stick that on the back too.

edit: actually, looking at the FW site, a better and cheaper way is to just get the hydra tank conversion kit for the turret, then I don't have any wasted parts

This is gonna be great. Your assault ramp is great. You could add some heavy bolter turrets at the back if you want, to give the boys some covering fire when they disembark?!

Hydra guns sounds great. It's gonna be an immense centrepiece for your guard. Do you have a general to command from it? you need to make up a special character for that momma.

Yes my general and his inquisitor buddy will be riding in there, along with 50 bodyguards

Got a little more done. Added some armor plates along the side, never thought rivets could be so tedious I hope to not add many more... The walls are now permanently attached to the body and the middle lasgun tower is done along with the 2 bottom heavy bolter turrets next to that. They're removable right now though, I will probably paint them separately in the end so it will be easier to paint the walls without the little guns all in the way.

Time to start level 2

At first I was going to make it 3 panels wide instead of 2, but I like the big double door for the front porch, and now I have room for those arch thingies that will go down the side. So the 2nd floor will be 2 wide 8 deep.

I want to get this part all done in time for when the Shadowsword/Stormlord is released. I want to make the top battle cannon turret out of the shadowsword cannon & housing, and then I'll just use the baneblade body as a regular baneblade. Gonna order the regular baneblade turret from the warstore, instead of waiting for them to start selling the shadowsword turret frames since they might charge a lot for them at first.

How in the world have I missed this so far? I LOVE Leviathans all the way back to my Squat Space Marine Army (Epic for you whippersnappers)...Keep it up and don't give up no matter how confounded you can get building one. A budy of mine got 1/2 way through his and gave up.

Why don't you go get some textured Plasticard that will allow you to simulate a retractable door above the ramp, or score the plasticard and create false hinges and doors in the plasticard?

not to say that you need to do it like this guy, cos I think yours looks much more 40k, but have you seen this guys attempt?

yeah I saw that one I like the look of the baneblade tracks, but I'm really only doing this because of that tank toy, I doubt I would have wanted to build one at all if it wasn't for that. His is a more "traditional" look i guess. I'm just making mine up as I go I wanted mine to seem more like a rolling fortress instead of a giant tank thats why I used all the COD pannels for it.

TBH, the one in that link just looks too plain, the COD pannels bring this one to life, gives it some amazing detail.

as for the patterns of levi's...these things are huge and as old as the titans themselves...some variance in details is allowed, along with customization of the vehicle...So what are you gonna name your Levi?

I haven't thought of a name yet My army is called the Stormguard, the planetary defense force for my marine chapter Knights of the Stormrider. Their homeworld is sort of near Cadia & the eye and they're a very anti-chaos army.

I'm basing it on the Bell of lost Souls datasheet. Theirs is 1400 pts and has 6 TL lascannons, 8 TL heavy bolters, doomsday cannon, battle cannon and transport for 50 humans, 25 ogryns or 10 sentines.

I was going to call it a Stormguard pattern leviathan. I will just have it able to transport humans as I don't have any ogryns or sentinels and if I did I doubt I'd want them in there, and I'm imagining that will make room for extra ammo, etc, for the Hyrda turret that will be on the top in the rear section. The front will be a shadowsword cannon & the housing from the new kit, but made as a spinning turret on the front top, and it was just going to be for looks and count as the regular battle cannon. Or, should I have that fixed and not able to spin and have it as a real shadowsword cannon? Or I could use anything else from that kit, maybe the vulcan megabolters from the stormlord instead? No idea how to adjust the cost though... 1400 pts minus carrying bigger models plus hydra & top big gun = ??

When you're in games of that scale the points don't matter just as much. You could round it up to 1500? or just add the points for a hydra on to it and say that you're transporting it!

True

I think I'm going to go with the stormlord vulcan megabolter for the top turret instead of the battle cannon Then I'll have the hydra turret on the very back behind it. Just ordered that last night. I'm hoping to get it all built by March 8th for a megabattle at my local store. Painting it is another matter...

I got the side walls for the 2nd floor all built and a roof on top. Gonna add those side arch thingies tonight all around and then I'll take some new pics
