I think I might have preferred if they made some seriously up-gunned weaponry that could be used on flash gitz, nobz, or bosses, instead of something as basic as a shoota.

If GW didn't sue fort Maxminis lasguns:

... then I don't think they will bother for the shootas.

Hopefully Maxmini will continue making great conversion bits.
I will definitely order some of their excellent head sets.

Except that these don't look a thing like lasguns.

When was the last time GW or anyone actually sued someone for IP infringement?

I don't think BrookM actually wants a rip-off of a Rock-It launcher, I think he/she(?) just wants something that looks similiar to it.

I agree with this, if Kev White and Hasslefree miniatures can produce Hellboy, the entire cast of Scooby Doo, Lara Croft, and kid jedi, I don't think a small garage company like Maximini needs to worry about a passing similarity to generic, over-sized weapons.

People are crazy about calling law suit on a lot of forums but I don't think there's any real danger. This industry is incredibly incestuous and its just going to happen that items produced by one company look like items produced by another. If GW litigated every instance of this, they'd have no time to do anything else.

Hell, Gamezone produces incredible miniatures designed specifically to appear in Games Workshop games. Is there a lot of effort by GW to chase after those guys?

Thank you!

You know, the reproductions do have a nice ad-hoc/scratch built feel to them, they might be something for a future project with feudal warriors being pressed into Imperial service carrying with them those lasguns, a locally produced crude copy of the standard Kantrael pattern.

The Maxmini lasgun (if painted non-wood) matches the GW ones (just fill the holes in the flashlight suppressor).
Not that I care.
On the contrary - I am looking forward seeing more 40k-ish weapons from Maxmini.
Sniper rifles, shotguns, flamers, autoguns, chainswords, etc.
Hopefully GW wont mind (as most of the weapons will end up on GW minis = no loss of sale).

Which part of those is GW IP exactly? They're big chunky guns. People are being a bit optimistic about GW actually having a chance of claiming infringement.

I remember once upon a time a company produced big chunky walkers. They're not around anymore. Can you guess why?

I should have quoted. I was more directly referring to lord_blackfang's mention of Dream Forge.

so here`s slightly different perspective...
After a thought I agree that there`s something wrong with this set. But it has nothing to do with copyrights (which I believe we haven`t infringed). It something diffrent. All of the conversion bits we did so far were easily recognizable as ours. Even with those tguns - some of you said that one of them is isimilar to lasgun. But at the same time you clearly see that it isn`t. So if you see it in someone`s army and you like it you`ll ask the question - how you made it / where have you bought it? .
With the current guns you won`t ask this question (I guess). You`ll simply assume that it is one of GW shootas. That`s bad in marketing sense.
Still I decided we`ll have this realease. For several reasons. They`re IMO cool and well made. First of all I think it`s not a good idea to hold something that`s ready to release, unles you suspect a real trouble with it. Would be a pity if Artur`s work would go to waste. I personally feel there might be people that would like to get something like this (well, me for instance ).
The thing that we might still pull out at this moment is altering those or adding some new, more "fresh" designs to the set. And that`s exactly what we`re thinking to do - we`re weightning pros and cons.

And as the legal matters go - GW has a pretty good department in this matter, don`t you think? If they find there`s something wrong with this guns I`m open to talk about this with them.

BTW - some cool ideas sprang in this topic.

@Daggermaw: cool pics - really inspiring.

@warpcrafter: AK47? hmmmm.... that would be cool. To the point we might do that....

How about making some snazzguns for Flash Gitz? GW doesn't make them yet. Or rokkit launchas for vehicles...

Umm, guys go to a gun store and take a look around. The asthetic differances between many weapons from differant manufacturers are so small it takes an expert to spot many of them. Barrels, stocks, flash supressors, etc., are often very similar. If you don't have a chapter/army icon on it and it's not exactly the same I can't see the problem. If someone was making something fairly unique to 40K I could see the problem, like chainaxes.

Guns are tools built to solve an engineering problem. So of course they all look similar.

If you made a Maxim type machine gun without a water jacket for the barrel, it would overheat and jam.

I agree GW legal isn't going to be able to do much to you as far as copyright or anything, it would be too costly for them and probably not worth their time. I also agree with the thought that while they are cool, they aren't going to inspire a lot of people to pick up a ton of them.

I think someone else suggested in this thread that maybe making something that could pass for snazzguns would be a great idea.

I think you guys have great miniatures, your pulp super villian range is amazing. But you need to look at the current miniatures market and see where the void is and try and fill it.

GW doesn't have miniatures for everything and as an ork player I would love to see snazzguns, a variety of lootas, a bunch of new powerklaws, orkish small arms like revolvers.

Crap what I'd really like to see would be new turrets and bitz for the battlewagon and trucks, but that's just wishful thinking.

Yeah, seriously, unless you're working for Games Workshop or for a company that makes models for use in Games Workshop games, why should you care if it infringes on GW IP? Frankly, companies like MaxMini are good for us, Joe Player-on-the-Street, as they provide us with modeling and conversion options that Games Workshop does not (particularly with GW's lousy "no more bitz" policy!)

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack
