Two questions:

1. Do you have to do any online activation for Single Player?
2. Do you have to maintain a connection to the internet to play Single Player?

Knowing Relic option one is most likely so. I doubt option two is the case, this isn't EA thankfully.

You don't have to do either unless you want the achievemetns and the other Live abilities(messaging, viewing friends, voice chat, ect.).

I was under the impression that the game requires Steam, even for retail copies, so one time online activation might be required.

Online activation for single player is f***ing stupid. It could be worse though, it could be Gears of War for the PC where your saved games are deleted if you don't keep a connection to Live active...

This is why you hunt around for a patch to "fix" your copy of the game.

There should be something, somewhere out there on the internet. If you're never planning on playing online then it is a viable solution.

No, thats only really the case with valve products. Most major steam releases can function just as well perma offline. The last few dawn of war games were steam games as well.

Pretty similar, except that there are now 4 different paint patterns for Marines (including halved and quartered), but you can't use custom badges (apparently Relic was worried about obscene bits or something). You're also limited in color selection to "Official GW Colors", but there's a pretty wide range.

How long is the single player campaign and what would be the incentive to replay the campaign?

If you hold down shift, will it let you select multiple units that way (eg, 1 and 2 together)? I asked for this in the testing phase and wonder if it made it in at all?

woo just started playing and they did indeed add this. It annoyed the hell out of me not having it (and it is not in company of heroes either) so yay!

- You can play through the entire 'single player' campaign in multiplayer co-op (Think Gears of War, RTS style)

Up to how many players?

Only Marines even in coop?

Campaign Co-op: The Campaign co-op mode is still only marines. The story is marine centric.

Mulitplayer Co-op: If you play co-op against the computer, you can play any races in any combination. i.e. Human Marine with Human Tyranid vs CPU Eldar and CPU Orks. Or whatever.

Ok thank you.

For the Campaign coop I now understand that it is only for marines. So It is possible to play this campaign with 7 other players but only as marines. Am I correct?

Is anyone else having this problem? I'm trying to start the game for the first time, have done all the set up, hit the launch button and get "This game is not available at this time, try again later"

Angron- crushing the theme and fluff of armies one horde at a time.

This is a massively fun game, my only complaint is that I don't want Dolph Lundgren as the force commander, I'd much rather have a screaming baldy!

I keep meaning to buy the Dawn of War: Platinum bundle (everything but Soulstorm which adds Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle) and play some of it but I never seem to get around to it. I can download it from Steam I guess.

Come to think of it I was planning to get Mark of Chaos too. Again, I just never got around to it.

You have to have Games for Windows Live installed, however you can create an "Offline" profile to play through single player.

The campaign indeed rocks but it annoys me to no end that in skirmish mode you don't get to build anything... I liked building fortifications for my Guard in the previous editions of the game, and the eldar player could really add a lot of strategy to his game by carefull planing of his portals.
Oh and maybe this is the veteran Company of Heroes player in me but instead of spending recourses to give my farseer various bits of equipment i opted for more troops...
Also the skirmish maps seem to be about 8 or so...
But hey it seems a VERY good game!

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

The only problem i had with game is installation.

it took me 5 hours.

what happened with installation is instead of steam installing from the disc, it thought that i bought it form steam itself, and it took mr 4 hours of downloading it to figure it out, i had to delete the local catch files in steam and then i could install it.

besides the annoyance with installation, the campaign is awesome and i enjoy it greatly
recommended 9/10

Okay, I just now have purchased and am downloading Dawn of War Platinum! No more procrastinating for me.

I would buy DOW2 as well but I'm pretty sure that my video card can't handle it.

Oh man, I hope that the Imperial Guard is going to be the first expansion race again. I've just seen them in game and the regular Guardsmen just look so badass with their variety in heads, torsos and ruggedness. No two look alike, I wish Relic had done the same with those marines.

I think they took the standard tutorial route with the first missions being the tutorial. With that being said, the easy AI is basically brain dead, so you can mess around in skirmishes against it without having to worry getting wiped out before you tech a bit.

There's no blatent "Tutorial" in the game, however messages come up on the left and brief you on how to use new abilities, etc. as you play the game. This happens in both the campaign and in multiplayer.

In other news: Someone earlier mentioned "Total War". The Empire: Total War demo just hit Steam.

This is really a hell of a month for strategy war game fans. DoW2, Empire: Total War, and Halo Wars, are all hitting the streets within weeks of each other. And from the looks of all 3, they all do what they try to do very well.
