It IS a real tattoo. It's in Skin Deep this month (or one of those ink mags my GF buys anyway).
Turns out LeGrognard, that the owner of this tattoo isn't a fan of Warhammer at all!
The artist who did it is a massive gamer geek and convinced his mate (this poor sap) to get the ink done!
60 hours apparently.
Be a pal and scan the article for me?
This has been in other "tattoo mags" as well and every artist I know who has seen it has said it isn't real.
Even my tattoo guy says it looks like an airbrush job

Here is a gamer tatoo story that you guys might find interesting....
I've mentioned here and elsewere that I'm in corrections. Specificly at this stage in my career I'm the intake/release supervisor at a low security state prison here in Texas. I like to say I'm the doorman as I am the first staffer they come into contact with when they arrive and the last one they see on their release day. Anyway, a few weeks ago we had a young White kid in the early '20s show up in one of our incoming groups. He was a first timer doing an 18 month sentence for posession of Meth. (damned idiot) During the strip search I noticed that he had a 40k Imperial Eagle tattood on his left upper arm. I found it amusing, thought "small world we gamers live in", and didn't think anything more of it. (I certainly was not going to speak to him about it or identify myself as a fellow gamer geek. That would be unprofessional and would not be in keeping the zone of seperation I maintain between me and my charges.)
Anyway a couple of days later I happened to read a report that the "photo and ID" girl wrote about this guy. While doccumenting his scars, marks, and tatoos she had annotated the eagle tat as a "Nazi eagle" and forwarded his name to the "Security Threat Group Officer" (the guy who monitors and attempts the twart the activies of prison gangs...a problem in all prisons) as a potential Neo-Nazi! Fortunately I have a very good workign relationship wityh our STG Sgt. I've helped him out in the past with indentifying real Nazi iconography on incoming inmates and the like.
So I went to the STG guy and explained that I had seen the tatoo in question and that it was not in fact Nazi iconoghraphy but something from a wargame. This of course led to some interesting questions. Yes, I did play the game in question. No, I did not know the inmate on the outside, etc..
The funny thing is that I saved this kid a bit of trouble and he'll never know it. The simple existance of a "Nazi" tatoo would not have gotten him in trouble with staff, but it would have gotten him on a watch list and increased scrutiny from STG. This could have possibly gotten him crossways with others in the inmate population as a result. Call it my good deed of the week if you will!
The moral of the story is that those gamer tats may have other negative effects upon you in the future aside from just the predictable fading and possible regrets that you ever got the stupid thing in the first place as you grow older!

What you didnt know about that tattoo is that GW contacted him and the tattoo artist and gave them both desist orders for using GW's IP without permission.
The tattooist is to stop using GW artwork.
The guy that got the tattoo is to get a new back.

Too bad it won't look that good in a few decades, once the nurgle's rot takes over.
Do you have or know much about tattoos?
As shallow as they go into the skin, now, they don't have the same kind of issues, where the ink "bleeds," like they did years ago, when they thought that tattoos had to go DEEP into the skin to hold properly.
Twenty, 30, 40 or more years is no problem for current tattoo technology.
My first tattoo, that I got almost 15 years ago, is as clear now as it was the day I got it.

If you want a long-lasting but non-permanent tattoo, henna painting as done by Indian ladies is good. Apparently -- I've never tried it. There are a load of traditional patterns, mainly on the hands/forearms. I don't think they would be used to doing 40K imagery though.

Henna tattoos are usually one color, a cepia type brown not multi-colored. They last about 3-5 days depending on if you live in the shower or not.. lol

while i have seen the picture in the OP before, and had heard largely that the artist in question is a 40k fan, blah blah blah...i have never seen such a reaction from the picture.
i remember reading a magazine article, interviewing Viggo Mortensen, during the production of the movie "Eastern Promises" where he had Russian Mob tattoos airbrushed or otherwise temporarily put on him. Anyways, long story short, in the article he talked about how he got looks from folks who knew about those tattoos, and actually thought he was in the mob, they looked that real.
that being said, i am still not a fan of fake tattoos... if you want one, get one. if you have a fake one to "test wear" around... dont pretend like you're hard and act like theyre real... just wear them as if nothing was different, and judge reactions from others. heck, im only a couple weeks away from some more art being done, so dont think that im just some crazy old guy yellin at the kids from the porch.

I heard about that years ago, what a load. I know I'm going to sound like I just got out of highschool again, but if you get one of those you're a god-damned pussy, and a poser. Man up and get the real thing or just don't bother.
And that's not elitism, that's just a plain fact. Walking around with a fake "sleeve" and pretending to be badass is just stupid.

you realize that most people who have tattoos didnt just get drunk one night and suddenly have a light bulb pop on over their head, stumble down to the local tattoo shop and get one done, right??? So really its not a "Im too young" kind of thing, more than it should be "i havent found the design i like the best" kind of thing
most people spend weeks, months, and even years looking over designs and thinking about what they'll want done on them. I know i fall into the "years" category for my first, though once that was done, it took me about another 2 days to find the basics of my next design, and another 6 months talking with my artist about how i want it done Now, im only about 2 weeks from getting it!!
