And when you say you can take 100 guardsmen with two troops choices I assume you're talking about Conscripts.

That's two infantry platoons with 5 squads each. Regular guard not conscripts.
The Guard is waiting for a new codex so in a couple of months time all advice will be null and void. For the momment we (yes i play guard) have weapons galore to deal with every situation except invls...
Plague marines are just a direct hit from my Basilisk. The DP will be shot by everything that has a line a sight to him and will die. Defilers die very quickly but you can use them to draw fire. Obliterators will die to ordnance. Deep stiking termies will be shot so many times that they WILL fail saves. A well deployed guard (castled) will shoot your shooty army to bits without sweating.
Giving me three rhinos full of berserks and possesed plus a raider full of termies WILL disrupt fire plans. Which is what you must do to win.
Good Luck facing the emperors finest

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

He's facing the Imperial Guard, not Space Marines.

Besides that, everything you said was true, although I target transports 1st always. I maaged to take out a land raider ferrying some termies and killed the Land Raider and two termies, so he was down a few guns. Oh and the two troop choices is more like 110 men(5 squads of ten and 1 Platoon HQ of 1 JO and 4 guardsmen), but that's besides the point.
With those two troop choices though, I could then be able to get 2 conscript platoons, or two armoured fist squads(a squad in a chimera), or two more platoons of guardsmen.

And believe me when I say this, a wall of 200 guardsmen in close order drill(+1 initiative +1Ld, cost is free but models must be in base to base contact with squad) is a pretty terrifying thing. Add on hellhounds shooting fire over said line and Leman Russes hammering from 72" away and you should paint your CSM with brown pants. Especially since you can't consolidate into closecombat and the squads to the left and to the right of your charging CSM will get filled with about 32 lasgun shots and with whatever other weapons they stuck in there.
