I've never been considered a "nerd" by anyone, however I would assume that's because for the greater chunk of my teen into early 30s life I had "bizzare" hair (including a foot high mohawk) am coverd in tattooes, have loads of piercings, stand about 6 foot 4 inches and weigh 250 pounds and have also played bass guitar in several "punk" bands.
Basicly the people who know me just see me painting & playing with "little plastic men " as just a facet of my normaly "bizzare" behavior.

Well, I go to a high school where, out of 4000 kids, I am one of 30ish white people.... I have been helped by the assumption that all white people are weird, and so whether I'm leafing through the SM codex, or wearing my 5ft santa hat in the middle of june (no... I am NOT compensating for ANYTHING... ssshhhh!) it is considered normal weird behavior for a white person...

I bring my figs to paint during after work activities. The club I sponsor pretty much runs itself, so
while they rehearse I now paint my soldiers.

No such thing as a closet gamer in my circle of friends.... We actually formed the 'Fantasy Gaming Club' in high school, one of the teachers was the sponsor. Worst part about it was trying to get into the announcements.... Vice Principal hated us. Best thing about it.... all the jocks and gangbangers stopped harassing the more nerdy of our members.... after we got some just retribution after school one day. It's amazing how many dorks you can fit into a '83 chevy econline van. It's also amazing how frightening said dorks can be when each is equipped with a homemade version of a medieval weapon, NOT the pvc/foam type, rather the steel pipe/welding scraps type. I've seen what a modern day scourge will do to the human body... not pretty. (Be very careful about teasing that scrawny kid who's still wearing his mage cloak after the homecoming day parade.... especially if he's not scared to talk gak back to you)

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.
