For fun look up Knob Creek on youtube if you want to see some fun videos. It's an annual Class III get together and you get some great footage.

Personally, my dad and I own 2 Mausers, one genuine k98 and one yugoslavian. There is also an SKS with attached (dull) bayonet and old-style grenade launcher(no, it works but noone makes grenades for it anymore and we aren't crazy enough to have that in the house anyway.) One of his friends usually brings out an m1a1, among other things when we go to the range.
These weapons are perfectly legal and great fun to shoot, but I think to officially be legal to buy and own them you need to apply to the ATF for a Curios and Relics license for the actual military surplus. As long as you pay the fee and don't have an outstanding criminal record you are good to go.

It just means that the suppressor, laser sight, ACOG sights, etc are Special Operations styled.

Take when Katrina hit New Orleans for example. People were running around looting, rapeing and murdering others freely cause the Law failed horribly.
Wouldnt you want a Semi-Automatic Rilfe to protect yourself and your family from the lawless?

Besides, these "military issue" weapons (at least the ww2 stuff) isn't particularly any more deadly to you or me than a deer rifle, it is just made to a different purpose. It isn't like once you pick up a rifle you start having dreams of conquest and destruction. It's a full fledged hobby just like Warhams(although with very different nerds with very different skillsets-somehow they attract the same types of show-off jerk types though.)

/facepalm.
That was a joke.
And most of the people looting, raping, and murdering others freely?
Were the ones who had guns for "self-protection".
Also, notice that the cops there before Katrina were incredibly corrupt. They were getting away with far, far too much.
The PMCs and National Guard units sure cleaned that crap up though, and caught hell for it.

Are we really going to have this conversation again?
Most sites wait a little while before cycling though old dependable arguments like gun control.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. There's no need for the gun control argument -- at least for the Brits here. We have enough violence on the streets to argue about whether people should have guns over here or not.

Depends on the gun and situation
Real life: a standard cut edge round center point will do me fine on most things, allthough standard british military training you use a basic SA80 with iron sights (well, thats about the only metal on the pieces of gak)
pistols dont even need sights / dots
i think the main interest in the idea came from the SOCOM, huge fething silencer and box tip red dot
if its a sniper rifle then its allways going to be a crosshair.
ACOG sights are gak, they get hit by too much glare in the middle of the day, and they allways tend to be off by a few inches at over 100 foot or so.
Games:
call of duty 4 of course
M40A3 and R700 are the only snipers i use, once again (like real life) i cant stand ACOG sights on guns, they just slow you down and reduce the chance of a no scope kill from a distance.
Barrett is the biggest piece of gak on the game
weak, short ranged and basic compared to the M and the R.
oh, and did i forget to say it looks like gak? and when fired gives you away more? (red dot stays on the map longer)

No thats the whole point.
-When we drove back from Austin to Houston the day after Ike, we were armed enough to make Patton blush. Unlike New Orleans, no one permitted riots and looting here.
-we have 8,000 killings just across the border in Mexico. The Mexican army is fighting them currently and its spilling over. Phoenix is now the kidnapping capital of the US as a result. Some gangs opay Mexican army units to do their fighting.
Yes there are reasons. Plus its fun as heck when out at the range.

Depends how twealy you want to be. Anywhere from $50 - 5,000 dollars. I'd proffer that a good day scope (non aimpoint or with elctronic griblies) could be had at $300 or less. I have a giant 9x scope for my plinky little .22 rifle which broke when I was trying to sight it in
pistols dont even need sights / dots
Wrong Army puke! Some nice trijicon night sights or simple fixed boxed sight are whats for breakfast!

I see alot of people talking about their SKSs. Every SKS I've ever had or used has always had 2 problems: 1) the magazine is a ridiculous hassale to seat properly and 2) many mags feed extremely poorly to the point of not at all. Is this just me?
Now the 2nd I can probably blame on sub-standard magazines. I simply cannot, however, fathom how a military rifle was designed with such a finnicky locking mechanism.

Our sks is fine, but dads bud has a FN with a bum ejector that fails to remove the cartridge almost every time.
As for sights, you should see our yugo mauser. The sight is permanently fixed at 400 yards, so it will hit a target an entire 12 inches high at 100 yards. It is still boringly accurate, so all you have to do is put the target at the top of the iron hood over the end of the barrels' sights and shoot away.
