Cyporiean wrote:My hubby just groans and rolls his eyes whenever he sees me walk in with bags of stuff from the game store...

like this weekend, he saw my three bags worth of models and started to bitch at me.. till I reminded him I received large commission.. then he got happy.

Of course I didn't tell him about the 9 Valkyries i preordered

We mostly get along with each other's gaming, he spends way too much on Video Games, and I spend proper ammount on table games

One thing that we did to kill the complaining was to set and stick with annual budgets of "spare" money. I can use my spare money for whatever I want, and so can she. No complaints or issues as long as you stay in budget. You might consider that.

My wife doesn't really have any problems with my gaming hobby. Occasionally, like the last time I went on a painting spree before a local tourney, she complains about me spending too much time with my "little guys."

In moderation however, she is fine with it.

She is a graphic artist, and sees the appeal of converting/painting miniatures, helps me out with critiques and such.

And we keep separate bank accounts for "personal purchases" so that helps as well.

My last girlfriend was pretty much excellent about the hobby. She didn't really get the game (which is what I initially wanted to try), but she loves to paint and actually did up my first Orks and would up teaching me a descent amount about painting to boot.

I'm pretty much of the opinion that if you're up front and honest about stuff, it works out reasonably well. When you start hiding things and giving folks bad surprises, it tends to cause problems.

My fiance has absolutely no interest in playing 40k. Which is fine with me. It all is about making sure you don't overdo it.

Of course mine likes to play some video games (starcraft, and wow for a couple), really likes to play boardgames (her current favorites are killer bunnies and robo-rally, go figure), and she goes frisbee golfing with me.

I in turn go with her to the ballet, play's, and take her to chic flicks.

It's a good thing to have stuff in common but I think couples needs some of their own space too. She likes getting time to herself to just hang around the house or go out with her friends.

Although she does like to call my miniatures dolls. And she likes to ask if I'm going to go play dollies with my friends.

luckily i have a girlfriend who not only tolerates the hobby, but is genuinely interested in it as well...
at first the whole thing confused her a little bit, but eventually it grew on her...

it started with painting and now shes starting to pick up her rulebook and play...
this christmas she told me she wouldnt mind getting a black reach set and some of her own paints, which i was more than happy to do for her

Ah the girl, she understands. She used to play 40k and Inquisitor, but quit after discovering the pub with her mates. She shows some interest every now and then plus she isn't beyond the odd game or two. As long as I don't go overboard it's all good in the hood. Plus it helps to bribe her every now and then with some random things she likes.

My girl is pretty cool about it. She hangs out with one of her friends on Friday nights and I play my 40K league, then meet up with her and her friend after. My only other major play night is Monday (and sometimes Saturday/Sunday depending on how game-horny I get). She's come with me to a tournament before but it didn't end well, mainly the result of the tournament being in a cramped space, poorly run and my first game going over to miss the lunch break. She'll paint form time to time and says she wants to learn the rules "at some point" which I've slowly learned is girl for "when I owe you that much."

My wife is definately cool with it and is an enabler to boot. Usually for my birthday or Christmas she gets me gc's to the local store. I really try to balance my hobby with our relationship. If I have a game or tournament coming up then I make it a point to schedule a date, or a nice dinner before or after the event.

I don't go to bars, or spend too much time with my friends so she knows how important it is that I get my geek on. If I want to assemble some minis or work on a roster I wait till we are watching tv. I've even sat through about 4 seasons of Greys Anatomy. I think I assembled an entire Warriors of Chaos army during that period.

I don't even KNOW anymore.

Mrs. Gitkikka would certainly prefer that I play with my army mens rather than play WoW all the time, that's for sure.

My wife is fine with it. It's a hobby I do with my twin boys and she paints a little bit too.

I have the best! Mine plays, paints (a little) AND is all about going to tourneys with me. She even hounds me when a big event is coming up locally, to take the day off and go play! How cool is that?!?!?

I consider myself lucky, for the most part my girlfriend is very accepting of my "little men" and has on several occasions expressed interest in an army of her own,on the occasion that my hobby becomes a "situation" it's always due to me going on an all night painting/kit bashing spree,so I certianly can't blame her for getting off.
She also seems to like that she never has to ask me what I'd like for birthdays/christmas/etc.,she just has a look in my notes & picks from my "I want" list.

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.
