I think it's ironic that I'm getting the love from the renegade players Anyway, it's good to get respect from anyone. I'll be putting up an sA pattern Faces/Beards tutorial when I've cracked out the steaming new Cadian Command Squad. Hopefully making some tasty new conversions with that

Anyway, thanks to everyone, peace & love as usual.

This is a nice thread you've got here, sA. This "Berlin Brigade" camouflage has grabbed my interest. However, although Gundam-Mecha said that it's a lighter colour sprayed over a darker colour, I'm thinking that it's the other way around (although I'm sure that it doesn't matter at all). The reason I'd like to think this is because it would be easier to do this on an actual Imperial Guardsmen. Furthermore, it looks like someone tried it out on a Doomhammer in WD351.

I want that tutorial badddddddd.

your models looks great - modeling and painting aspect, the feel of movement given by each model gives great characteristics and atmosphere. the painting of the faces/lenses are amazing i love it, the dirty/warlike feeling you give to the clothes and armour is fantastic. One question though - since all the armour/clothing is dirty why cant the faces have a few smudges of dirt/blood etc? i mean if you look at some WW1/2 photos, their faces are pretty damn dirty, then again overall effect is inspirational.

yes I'd also like the 5 oclock shadow tutorial.

I really like the chimera. The autocannon especially. The sargent high born guy and the october guy are stand outs.

Nice work.

Cheers for the input guys

@Cosmic: Well I'm thinking it over, I might try the scheme out on a piece of card to get your thoughts.

@Gutteridge: Thanks a bunch I haven't really got round to putting smudges/blood onto them yet. The thing is, with a lot of them it's a high-contrast scheme, and so smudges would mar the already small areas of lit skin. But I will definaelty look into it!

@Shaman: It's coming, it's coming I try to put as much character and backstory into each guy as possible -- it helps me infinitely. The Chimera isn't getting much work done on it at the moment, I'll try and finish Squad 1, then I'll concentrate on that.

Overall this project is going along swimmingly, for want of a better word.

I have already replaced the heads to 3 men, Sgt.s Kabel and Wronx, and Cmdr. Lok with heads from the Cadian Command Squad, so now they're looking much, much more interesting. Anyway, I'll have some progress photos later, and should be starting on a Faces Tutorial, maybe with some Lenses as well.

Until then, peace & love.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok, a few updates.

I've pretty much finished a newer model that I hadn't given any exposure to, the second sergeant in the Army, Xavier Kabel.

From a well-off and highly respectable family of merchants and shipping executives, who could trace their line back to the original planetfall upon Verdan, Kabel had had no idea that his brother was embroiled in armed gang warfare in the rotting underbelly of the great Sveltaur Docks until his house was raided by mercenaries in the night. Parts of his parents were identified in the sewage canals in the Lower Tier, but his brother was never found again after that fateful night, which left the teenage Kabel with the deep ruts on his face. He was mute for a few years, before being press-ganged by a passing Mechanicus Navy Vessel, picking up vagabonds and drunks to participate in experimental Venom testing. Killing the Mechanicus Monitor with his bare hands and a stainless steel chair (previously bolted to the deck), Kabel escaped, and was arrested by Udetsk and brought aboard his Flagship, the Indefatigable Sentinel. His history in the few years running up to his appointment to sergeant of the Irkutsk 24th after this point was especially foggy, with many Reports on his progress conveniently erased from the mainframe upon the Sentinel. Respected highly by Lok, it is now in the field of battle that he can atone.

^ I really like his pose, it's imperative and full of what a Leader should be like.

This is Lok, 2.0. The Tank Commander's head is chubby and doesn't suit the Cadian Body, but I think this head and the arms from the Command Squad (which is growing on me now) really suit the body and give it a sense of action. No poncy dress-coats for Lok, he's a soldier, not a bureacrat.

This guy is really an excercise in neatness. He's still gritty, but I wanted to perfect that. I'm taking it slow on him, not sure what will become of this one.

A weapons loader for the Heavy Bolter team that I'm half way through. Also a lesson on how not to do stubble! Damn. I'll have to give him another go, but the gaping mouth doesn't do the stubble any favours if you ask me.

P&L, maybe get a Faces tutorial up later today, probably not the way I'm going (i.e. Migraine).

If that's not you who had the Masterclass and had the bits of Brass and stuff, I'm mighty embarassed. Whatever I saw your book in Waterstones you loon Thanks for all the kind words dude We do projects at the same time, we can bounce off ideas. I think we're on the same wavelength.

Yes, the medical disorder is OSL -- Object Source Lighting. It could be Oral Skin Lesion, Oral Sex Lampoon, Orange Shag Llama. Or anything else. Whatever it is, it's not that hard and reccomend you try it when you're finish shovelling gak.Concrete = Polyfiller. I made a tray of it and smashed it up. It's pretty handy to have lying around, I've been doing almost all of the bases with some of this, plus a bit of grizzled paperclip for the reinforced concrete look. Oh, and I did a rouch check on the shemagh, nothing fancy. I think it needed that to break it up.

The funny thing is that what I said about the poo and lawnmowers was true

I think I'll give the face a go on one of my metal minis I'm trying to bring back up to spec. I'll post pics of how it turns out.

And no, I don't think that was me who did that masterclass at all. Although, with the meds I'm on, who knows.

I do try the OSL lol, I must not do it very well. I use it on my blues (check sig - sgt's shoulder pad) but I guess it doesn't stand out as much as greens n' stuff. I have some old pollyfilla somewhere, will have to bash it about like a council estate wife and make some more bases!!

Really nice looking guard here mate. Gritty, grim and realistic, just how guard should be.

Also, some great posing going on too, the scar face guy in particular looks great.

@Natorum: Thanks! It's the other guys such as Dante, infilTRAITOR and Gundam Mecha that have been inspiring me to do something, it's them you should be thanking!

@Gundam-Mecha: Cheers mate Gloves/fingerless gloves are really something that can add a lot of interest into any guardsmen. I began also making trigger-finger fingerless gloves as well for most of the riflemen

@Sternguard_rock: Thanks dude

Update time!

Anyway, I have broken my vow and started converting with the bitz from the command squad box even before finishing this squad, the draw was too great. I've already replaced some heads, and now I'm using arms/legs in conjunction with some of the standard IG pieces from the Shock Troops/Heavy Weapon boxes. This makes interesting conversions, but I've found that some of the bitz, like the Sniper Rifle and Cloak fit only one or two pairs of legs without extra effort from joining them smoothly. That was a design flaw in my view, perhaps they should have made the cloak in one piece, either as an attachment to the back or on one arm. Anyway, that's only a minor complaint.

This is my almost done version of Commander Lok. I think I'd be ready to do his bio now, but I won't for sake of time and effort. I also detailed the back armour plate, shoulder, and belt to show some of the weathering details that I've been banging on about. However, when it's at the normal scale it looks a lot better, which is nice to know.

These are my four guys which I've mocked up and then basecoated. I'm quite pleased, the poses are dynamic. These will be a joy to paint.

I like this guy especially. He will be drafted into one of the squads, as a normal trooper. That's what I'm trying to integrate, interesting bitz into the normal squads. Hmmm.

This is my new Company Standard bearer. I like his pose, and although it grated me a bit to give him the medal-torso, I think the model deserves it. I tacked on a Chainsword that I will later fashion an attachment to the belt for, but this was just to mock up the whole model. I posed the arm with the standard ever so slightly higher than instinct dictated, to give a bit more VOOM to the model.

Thanks to everyone who comments, it's a great great encouragement to know my work is being appreciated

I am loving this blog. Every single model has his own sense of energy and purpose. The colour scheme only serves to add to that.

Now I need to go back to my own IG and weather them into a warzone.. Everything looks too clean currently.

She can steal my models, she can't steal my Microsoft Word! How about some fiction, while we're waiting?

The whole pulverized building was silent, the vermillion and ochre leaves waltzing along every axis through the station’s platforms and its smashed windows. The five pairs of boots made no more noise while they scurried down the anterior corridor than the leaves did, collecting in vast quantities in every corner. Before them the main platform complex opened up, complete with the rusting hulks of looted Mag-Trains, no longer floating. Kabel took point, he held up a hand and every man in his patrol froze like upright statues, their eyes flicking from side to side like metronomes. The station had fallen from its former glory noticeably. The sketchy intel that had been provided had been years old – well kept, spotless tiling and mullioned windows high into the walls were both sullied and smashed. Trash and odd papers and loose posters collected, the detritus boosted by the earthy leaves scattered by the continent spanning Hydrocarbon Orchards just outside the city.
Kabel acknowledged the room was clear, moving forward with his rifle raised. He swung in wide arcs around every corner, mimicked by his squad, covering their wide fields of fire down the long hallway. His mind buzzed with every possible happening. Oktober, lugging that fething Launcer, could dislodge a stone. A click of concealed mechanism. The train could lift up into the air in a second, carried by a ton of Plastic Explosive. They would all die, third degree burns on every exposed skin. Shrapnel, flame. The searing, phosphorescent chems used by the Renegades to inset fear into the mindset of the tired, battered Loyalist forces. It wouldn’t be fast, he probably would feel it all. He shook his head – he had been on duty too long. They had all been on duty too long.
