and i dont actually own shining gold, its the only metallic i dont own.
once my camera is fixed ill buy some asap and do the tests for you though
i will also post the ork skin metallic tests i did for alpharius (burnished gold, dwarf bronze and tin bitz with 3 washes of thrakka green).
And in a new thread ill post my gore tutorial that i have typed up but still need to take photo's for (once more, damn my camera!)
I can't wait to see that Gore Tutorial. Camera phone pictures would be fine in this case I suspect. Wouldn't hurt I'd think.

At this point, I'm on the verge of starting one of two 'big' projects:

It is still up in the air, pending a few final decisions...

Great tutorial on washes...okay, we have seen the sample of washes used individually but does any one have samples of blended washes other than what has already been mentioned? Meaning, has anyone layered Asurman Blue over Leviathan Purple or Ogryn Flesh over Thrakka Green? How would this look like? I ask for samples as I want to see the effect before I spend the cash to purchase all the washes for blending. Post pics if any...THANKS!

I'm quite interested in your attempts for ork flesh, as I'm still in the building phase for my boyz, I'm still thinking about a paint scheme and new ways to do flesh colors is a good reference. Many thanks for posting this! The green and reds are just what my friend was looking for his Tau army.

Great post. I saw someone on another forum paint his Crimson Fist using an undercoat of Mythril Silver and then washes of the blue and red. Looked good for a metallic look to the armor.

It's given me some food for thought on an Eldar project I'm seriously considering.
It's neat to see this tutorial. The new washes have given new life to my painting. It's become easier to get speed and quality into an army.

the ork flesh trials were a failure although once the camera is fixed ill post colours anyway

I saw that, it was one of my inspirations for doing this test. CMON wasn't it ?

i know what you mean, washes make starting from a lighter basecoat alot easier and in my opinion a more valid option than black

ok so i need to learn how to do NMM, get good at it then do some tests then take photo's of them will do
EDIT: on second thoughts i wouldnt wash NMM, it would ruin the gentle blending.
although a watered down (around 3:1) version of a complementay colour (ogryn flesh for copper, devlan mud for bronze, asurman blue for chrome, gryphonne sepia for golds and a badab black for steel) i think might help pull colours together and help with the gentle shading.
EDIT AGAIN: 3 parts water and 1 part wash does work rather well for helping to finish off NMM.

Excellent reference - I love washes and use 3-4 layers of badab black over boltgun for a 'cast-iron look' on my chaos space marines. I found straight black paint boring, so paint mine Boltgun, then darken the heck out of it, and I think it looks good .
This Havoc probably has the best example.
I also use Devlan Mud straight on top of gold, and then highlight that with a gold/silver mix and then straight silver.
Finally, I used blue and green very very sparingly on certain areas of my raptors (painted in brass, so I wanted to add a very small amount of oxidation - you need to zoom in, but you can see it around the 'bolts/rivets' on the left guy's armour.
Great work on this tutorial - very useful!
