I think massive line squads are a thing of the past with so many specialized armor options that can kill men and vehicles better and without the vulnerability to assault. I keep plugging different lists into Excel to see what I can churn out within 2k points and tanks and vendies just keep coming up better than a pile of guys.
So the big question: Do you have a big problem with only 2-3 scoring squads?
The answer I keep coming up with is 'not really'. Not when I can park a Chimera end-on against a Russ or another chimera and get a 3+ cover save with AV12. If your opponent is honestly wasting that much time shooting at your troop chimeras, then the rest of your vehicles are killing him, quickly.
I cant agree more, chimera mounted vets are amazing, valk mounted vets are almost as good. A fantastic combo is the 4 vets in chims with 3 vendettas, that gives you amazing versatility in the pre game depending on your opponent, your set up and who got first turn.
In missions with 4-5 objectives which are becoming more and more popular in tournaments you can hop a couple of vet squads onto the vendis at game end and just turbo boost over after clearing it with your firepower. Against assault armies you can play MechDar and just dance around them all game with little fear of reprisal while your artillery and Chimeras beat them to hell.
I think the best
IG armies will be highly mobile elite vet lists, and the biggest threat to them will be other highly mobile mech lists.
5th ed is all about Mech, doesnt matter who you are if your on foot you are at a disadvantage and the new
IG codex just put the last nail in the footslogger coffin.
IMHO of course
