This is so typical of GW, using an independent retailer to gauge sales in an area then plopping a store up the road from them.

Well then they should have kept it in the Patomac mills mall s then cause it was right across the street from Game Parlor Woodbridge. You logic just doesn't pan out here Kid..

It totally pans out. They've twice opened stores down the road from indy stores around DC. The fact that one didn't work out does not mean its not a pattern.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the new Fair Oaks GW store on their opening weekend. It looks like there's going to be a great crowd of regulars there in no time. As for the vehicle building and conversion clinic I ran there today, that was the best turnout for a clinic like that I've ever had, so thanks for that too. Nice meeting all of you and good luck with your hobby projects.

the pattern, at least now, is to open a Gw store, pull in the kiddies, tell the vets to go play at the FLGS and when the kiddies get more involved, they send them to the FLGS and ask the clubs to mentor them (my verbage not GW's of course).. Right now there are 2 gaming clubs in the No. VA area that are being asked to help the GW store and are being helped by the GW store to do just that thing.

so, that is the logic I was saying wouldn't pan out. You are using logic from years back when GW wasn't quite so smart about co-existing with FLGS stores.

Of course, we will have to wait and see how it all pans out when the dust settles.. but I see the FLGS' getting a bit of business as they kids who frequent the GW store are sent to FLGS' closer to home with established vets to help them along.

That seems to me to be what they're doing.

The manager encouraged me to put up material for events that were hosted at other stores. I'll be running a LotR Escalation League, followed by a WotR one, in the summer and he was very enthusiastic about my getting him the details so they could advertise it there.

That hardly seems evil or stupid to me.

Yep, I've never had a problem getting the GW stores to put up our event flyers, etc. I've gone in and actively recruited with no problems. Heck, they've even donated merchandise and loaned terrain/mats for events.

All good news, and hey, I've been out of the US for 2 years so yeah, I might be out of date.
