Still wondering about production in china though?

i am not wondering, I am worrying. GW is being tempted down the use China as a manufacturing base route to save costs and give the bean counterss a better %. This will only kill off the Uk based minis industry but what is worse kill GW. IOnce you enter the Chinese Dragons mouth there is no going back.
Once China has the factories and the tooling the counterfeiting starts, and the internal rip offs. It happens to every manufacturing company that outsources to China, sooner or later they lose control, legally or illegally.

Journey to the West is outside Western copyright, so I'm sure GW would just rip it off like everyone else.

Do we really need Pig 8 Commandments on the WFB battlefield? Sure.

But I've seen and read English-translated versions of JttW, and there is no way is GW doing that much homework. In English, that book is multiple large volumes, literally thousands of pages.

Really, JttW is actually better as the basis for its own miniatures game. If I ever start a 25mm miniatures gaming company, I think that's what I'd like to use as my basis.

First, GW isn't going to do ancient Chinese in WFB. It's *Fantasy* Battles, not Ancient Battles.

Second, dog people would obviously be offensive, and you know it.

Yeah, maybe dog people would be offensive. So why isn't ogre people the same type of offensive? You yourself said "In the case of Ogre Kingdoms, there aren't any RL races / ethnicities of giant ogres, so it's not nearly the same issue." Ogres are clearly Mongolian, but according to you they are not the same as clearly Chinese dog-men. There are no "RL races / ethnicities" of dog people. According to yourself, this would not be an issue. Either neither are an issue or both are an issue, and you have said that Mongolian Ogres is not nearly the same issue as a Chinese army.

Because mongol is not in any political power to complain , they were already taken over by china. If they knew about it , they would be upset no doubt, but the question is what can they do?

Just like if there is fantasy army of bunch of black ape been used as slave unit, i wonder what would happen.

The question is, what is more offensive? Representing an ethnicity/nation of people as some type of animal, or representing an already touchy time period of one ethnicity's history with some type of animal? As an American, I would not be offended if they made an army of beast-people to represent America. Certainly playing off a racial stereotype for an army would be in poor taste, such as black slave apes, but would representing Chinese people as some random type of beast-people be as bad as portraying black slave beasts? And would portraying the Chinese faction as human rather than beast really be more offensive?

Actually it would be just as offensive for chinese to be portrayed as beastmen compared to ape slave example.

Especially since 80% of chinese insults are to do with animals. Have to be careful there, different culture view things differently.

I disagree. I don't know where you get this statistic from, but many insults in many cultures have to do with calling someone an animal. Animal people is something that fantasy does, but having these animal people represent "racism towards black people" would be more offensive than just having them represent "ancient Chinese people".
You might be more in favor of the Chinese-beastmen being offensive because, and this is just a guess based on your names and the fact that you can speak what I presume to be given the context Chinese, that you and JHDD are Asian.
Calling anyone an animal is an insult, whether you are Chinese or any other nationality or race. Having animal-people represent a more offensive thing is, to me, more offensive than having animal-people represent a perfectly normal thing.

I think JohnHwangDD is going a bit far, but at the same time history hasn't shown GW to be the most socially-savvy company.

That said, if they released a cool Cathayan army with good minis, I would but it.

I know the company, they're the official reps for GW in China and support 2 of the 3 shops in Beijing.

While I'd like to think that GW could produce a good Araby / Cathay / Ind / Nippon army with non-offensive minis, there is no evidence of their being able to do so.

There is, however, clear evidence of them doing the very opposite. And the very basis of using the names they use starts things down a prolematic path.

So given the track record, I have little confidence in their ability to do so.
