Nah are you kidding? GW will keep the mould lines on to keep the old gamers happy

Let's NOT get on the subject of whether or not GW tries to keep veteran players happy, shall we? This is such a nice thread, be a shame to ruin it. In all seriousness, good one, though.

GW has been in the red on and off. Passing savings on to customers when you are barely breaking even is not a good business strategy.

TBH I find better uses for Laser Cut styrene for making custom vehicles. It often costs less than 30 bucks to get enough cut styrene to make conversions for an entire squadron, all you need is some halfway decent CAD skills.

Where are you sending the stuff to get it cut, or do you have the gear at home? Can they bevel edges, or just cut out 2d shapes? What kind fo file restrictions/requirements are there on the process you use? AutoCAD sufficient?

Awesome guys, although there are tons of websites out there just like it.

And yes, I imagine its AutoCAD sufficient. I use Autodesk Inventor, which is a step down from autocad.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

They should use the same moulding process that Litko Aerosystems uses for their Space Corridors and Industrial Towers.

Taint? No, they don't make that. But they DO make Space Corridors. And Industrial Towers as well. Have you heard of Litko Aerosystems?

Damn. Depending on how fast they crank that puppy up to, that could get pricey. What kind of projects have you sent them, and what kind of costs did you incur? do you have any pics of what they sent you, and how much it cost to get it?

Here's a link for you, it's a general comparison of prototyping machines under $20,000. Hope it helps.

Well, for one thing, Titans have a lot of large flat surfaces and not a massive amount of small detailing. That would make it a bit easier, I should think.

No idea yet. They have been super cool to me, but I have not had them make anything for me just yet. I have to decide if I want them to do my project, or if I want it 3D printed.

If by years, you mean about 3 months, then yes. On the contrary, auto companies have been using this technology since the 90s.

Nuclear: Properly pronounced new-clear, not new-cue-lir. There is no 'u' between the c and l, so stop saying it because it just makes you sound like a dumbass. This includes nucleolus, and all other derivatives of the word.

What he said.

By the way, anyone know how much it would cost to rent out a machine for a while so you could print off a single model rather than drop 20 grand on something

The companies that own those machines aren't going to rent them. They'd make back a bit of money if they did, but they won't.

I tried to do that back when Iomega was using the technology to do their plastic cases..

GW really use some 3D printing? I'm surprised.

Way back when I was in 6th form the physics lads got to go on a trip and came back with an adjustable wrentch that was made with 3D printing. For me the exciting thing is being able to make things with moving parts that are moulded in rather than being several sections that need putting together like the current gw kits are. Quite clever how it all works really, but I can see it being way too expensive to use for mass production any time soon. Would be good to have space hulk corridors etc printed with built in doors and other nice novelties. Not sure of the extra price GW would add to it becuase 'it's new' though.

Several companies do low volume 3d printing. www.shapeways.com and www.xardas.com off the top of my head.

you are missing the meaning of lo volume, gwar. number of units, not pieces in the unit, is usually more to the point.

I must agree with the people that have said it makes unstable models i work with a model shop that has a 3d printer and it was the worst investment ever, it is neat to watch thou but the models are not the best

Well if you know a place that can build something on the scale of a warhound/warlord let me know and how much.

it will still be cheaper than forge world

you want a list? first off, I can. but I post no pics and take very little work because I have too much of my own stuff I want to build. Second off, ANY of these 3D Printing companies can build either a warhound, OR a warlord. If your pockets are deep enough. THIRD, any laser cutting company willing to work with the plastics (read: the vast majority of them) would be willing to cut out the shapes in sheet plastic.

And the cost might suprise you. Maybe. Depends on the process, and the detail.

If oyu need specifics, I suggest that you read this thread again. It seems there was some stuff you missed. Combine what you find with the most rudimentary of Google-Do, and you'll have more vendors than you can throw oyur dice at.

My applogies, I was aiming for a semi sarcastic tone there. I did however miss the bit about the plastics, I shall look into that (and it makes sence, a solid Warlord would weigh more than the table i reckon.)
