Those look like the Valkries will fit real snug in there and give a good all round protection. Good job

Kouzuki - I just left you a PM with info on the tray. As for everyone else, the 3 grave tank tray will be up on our site later tonight. Take a look and I'll update this post as soon as we have a picture uploaded.

Magc8ball - We actually tried to lay the valks on their sides but the foot print is almost the same size as the top view. After all the Valk is just a box with wings and guns. So to answer your question, it can be done but it does not save room or allow you to add anything else. Hope this helps.

sgt diablo, how many total inches fit in a gw case? can you put a 4" vehicle foam (like the valk one) in addition to a regular infantry 1" one?

Sgt Diablo wrote:Cyporiean - Great use of space, but I can not make foam to fit that way since I always require at least 1/4 inch of foam between vehicles. When I laid out the GW case the Valks always touched and did not leave enough room for foam to be properly cut. As you notice from your pics, all 3 of your valks are rubbing against each other and against the plastic inner wall of the case. I can't imagine you carrying that case for very long and not scratching your paint all to hell. You've done a great job painting them, why risk carrying them without foam? You'll just be mad at yourself later.

One last point. When we create a tray I always use a test we call the "4 Foot Drop" We build a tray, put the model its made for inside, place that in the 432 or 1520 and drop it from 4 feet, 10 times. If any part of the model breaks, or gets snagged on the foam we change the foam. This helps us simulate the possibility of someone dropping their P.A.C.K. and having their models inside.

I'm happy that you found a cheap way to carry those models, but be careful so you don't damage them.

I was looking forward to getting my P.A.C.K. before but now reading about the drop test I'm double psyched!

A little background on that comment- I'm in the Navy and going to an island soon. I'm banking heavily on the PACK I ordered protecting my models on the trip over. (more than likely a trip through the mail system for it)

P.S. When I did the original GW tray I never thought about leaving the wings off. Stupid me, I guess we learn something new everyday.

Fantastic

So, because I hit Checkout, let me confirm that this will fit in the 1520:

#BF-BF2V x 4
#BF-BF1V2LR2S x 1
#BF-BF72T x 1

And if I choose to buy the "Custom Loadout" 1520, I can just say I want these trays save myself like $30?

Btw, Thanks for making these and putting up with my crap

Well once again, you asked for it so here you go. We have just put into production the 3 Eldar Tank Tray. We always welcome good ideas and this was a great one. Check out the link here to find it on our website. As always the tray is made with better foam and cut to fit your models.

Cyporiean - Man, your good. That math is just right. Each Valk tray is 4" and you have added it up just right. Don't worry we love dealing with our customers. Keep the questions and info coming. Looking forward to helping you with your army.

Warboss - The small GW case can hold 4" and I've gotten the big case to hold 6" but really tight. Hope that helps.

Enjoy guys.

Sgt Diablo, what size bag would I need to hold 3 of your standard Valkyrie/Russ trays (not the wing pop off ones)? And what would it cost for the 3 trays + bag? Also is there room for the flying stands in those trays?

Srgt Diablo, if I may be allowed a slight digression, would you guys produce a tray for GW cases that combines Tau Battlesuit storage with some Tau infantry storage, or in addition, a tray that is designed just for battlesuits?

Thanks!

i doubt they'd be able to do that efficiently, srpyle. the battlesuit would most likely fit best into a vertical cylinder like the ones they have for heavy weapon teams and sentinels, necessitating probably a 3" foam(assuming you modelled them without a flight base). that would fit great on a vehicle foam sheet (since it'll already be 2-4"). the infantry ones tend to be smaller as most infantry is designed to be stored on their backs instead of their bases. maybe you could use the necron loadout, with the destroyer spaces going for battlesuits.

So I got my 1520 today, ( Luuuv iiiit )

Wanted to share how well the Valkyrie trays worked, and by accident I think I gave it the ultimate test.

While I was setting up the pics below, one of my valkyrie trays, with valk and two russes inside, fell off the table, upside down and slammed into the floor. My heart was in my throat as I picked it up,,, and found no damage at all to any of the models inside!!!!

I am such a total convert its not even funny, the 1520 is the cadillac of miniature storage devices, the best of the best without question.

I did have one small hiccup, in that I was not clear on my order and I ended up getting more infantry trays than I needed but Romeo was on the case in a minute and its being handled very easily. Once my new tray comes in everything shown below will fit in a single 1520 case and I still have an extra 60 troop tray, and slots for 8 hvy weapon squads or 4 sentinels available for the future. In my eyes not a bad value at all for my 320 including shipping. Especially when you consider that the figures it is protecting cost over a thousand dollars.

My only problem is that there is no place to put the flying stand, a huge and very unweidly thing so it would take up a lot of space better used for figs, but still if there is anything I would improve that would be it.

So here are some photos of my new case with my IG army and a final shot of everything that my 1520 will be carrying for me.

without having seen the valk (or it's stand) in person... can you fit the flight stand under the huge tail boom? it seems like there should be tons of room there.

Hi guys,

I'll put up a picture tomorrow with how the flying base should go in. The spot for it is exactly as warboss said it. You just stick it under the tail wink with the base resting against the back of the foam. This puts it completely in the foam and does not stick out for stacking. If your worried about paint chips from it you can always use a small sheet of paper towel to keep it from rubbing against the plastic. From testing mine out it works fine just laying in the tray. Since the flying base is so light it does not put any force on the model. I will also start adding a small foam insert with the tail section to help protect the model further. Bigtmac68, I'll add those inserts when we send out the tank tray.

Pictures to be posted tomorrow showing this.

Talk to you guys soon.

Oh god.....all the money sunk into Sabol stuff....oh god....OK, expect an order from me when school starts back up and I get my stipend check. I am so going to get one of these (and pretty much identical trays). Those 1/2 and 1/2 troop trays are genius!

That is awesome news Romeo, I tried to fit mine in under the tail but I must have been doing it wrong, look forward to seeing the pics.

I may play around with it tonight to see if I can figure it out myself. May have just had the base positioned wrong when I tried it yesterday.

I can't remember if this was mentioned already .. but.. any plans to make Valkyrie trays for the Sabol cases? I'm guessing you could fit maybe 2 of the wingless kind maybe? Even if it's a custom order kinda thing..?

Trying not to pull this thread off topic, just a quick question for Romeo.

One thing I noticed on your site however are a lack of tyranid shaped cut-out trays. The gaunt trays are great, but I would find it hard to get a good cut out for lets say...a carnifex or hive tyrant, specifically if they have a long gun (like the barbed strangler or venom cannon) that sticks quite a bit far out in front of the model. In addition to other models such as zoanthropes or tyranid warriors.

I can understand if there is just little to no demand for tyranid trays, or maybe it could be the difficulty to make a universally compatable tyranid tray due to the large amount of different equips/biomorphs for each tyranid creature.

Anyway, besides that everything looks great and I'll probably pick up a pack for my Marine and eldar armies.

Hi Guys,

Axyl - I hear you loud and clear. Nidz have been on our radar since day one. The only problem with Nidz is the different way people run them. Take carnifex as an example. The different gun set ups and various positions with their arms makes it very hard to make a shape that fits them all just right. These are just some of the problems you have with a Nidz army. Now we do have plans to do a few new trays for them but will not have those out for a few more weeks. Hold on for just a bit longer and we should have some items that makes life a bit easier for all Tyranid players.

Necros - As much as I hate to do this, we will be releasing a Valk tray for Sabol cases sometime on Friday. As always, check the "New Items" page on our site for details. http://battlefoam.com/catalog.php?category=62 As meny of you may know, we are looking to stop production of Sabol style trays by Christmas of this year. With the release of our bags, we feel that we offer a better bag system that gives the customer more bang for their buck. With the large trays, better overall construction, and 100% customer statisfaction we hope to get people to move over to our P.A.C.K. system. Also, it makes business sense for us to only make custom trays for our line of bags. Think of it this way guys. Would Ford make turbo charged engines for GM if GM did not have them available for themselves? That would only help GM sell more cars. Same goes for our bags. By making Sabol custom trays, we help Sabol sell bags. As of right now, we are truely doing it just to sevice you guys. Its bad business for us, but it helps all the gamers out there that have invested hundreds of dollars in Sabol bags and Army Transports. Stay tuned for news as it happens, but look for this change to go into effect sometime in late December or early January 2010.

Bigtmac68 - Pics to come soon.

Lord Solaar - Thanks man.

Burb1996 - Wow, 1996 the year I graduated high school and went to Boot Camp. (USMC - 8 years) Looking forward to helping you with your order.

Thanks guys.

Ya, after Jan 1, 2010 no more GW or Sabol stuff. We will still be able to cut those type of trays, but it will be custom orders only. No more stock items to pick from. Only BF trays will be selectable from pre made designs. This will allow us to focus all of our attention on making a whole lot of trays for BF.
