If my assumptions are correct then the pistol can penetrate a landraider.

Wrong. Strength X means jack gak against vehicles. It's the sniper rule that is what matters. All Sniper Weapons are Strength X and count as Strength 3 against vehicles. Not to mention Rending is only an extra D3 now. So you roll a 6 for pen, then a 3 for rending, that's 3+6+3 for a Maximum of 12.

His pistol IS AP 2 but wounds on a 4+. For a Land Raider, use his Melta Bombs!!!
I use him with a Vindicare andHarker Vets and they are great for synergy.

Thanks for the clarification on rending... It turns out to stink even against rhinos. To me the meltabomb is hosed since it has no AP. It's still a great pistol though.

Well it still rolls as normal on the Damage Table, 8+ 2D6 is bot to be sneezed at (especially if you can convince the necron player it isn't Bonus Penetration so you get it against his Monoliths )

You need to roll a 5 or 6 to destroy/wreck the vehicle. If it had an AP of 1 then you would have 50% chance of dropping it... To me 50% versus 33% chance is almost exponential in the difference of effectiveness and that is why I always use a meltagun for DoG. I have had many canny opponents decide not to tank shock my units when they see that meltagun... The less savy players end up inevitably with a big smoking wreck.

I like the idea of dropping him in front of a vehicle that has somewhere it wants to go - they either have to go around him costing movement or try and tank shock through him letting him use his melta bombs. My whole idea with using him is just to screw with my opponents.

Actually mate, you are wrong. I have the codex in my Hand now. The Pistol is listed as Strength X, AP2 Pistol, Sniper. Nowhere does it say it wounds on a 2+. His Blade does, as it is a poisoned weapon, but the Pistol is a normal Sniper Weapon (Wounds on 4+ with rending)

No, and they never have done since 3rd at least. 3rd and 4th they Hit on a 2+ and Wounded on a 4+, in 5th they hit on BS and Wound on a 4+ with rending.

If this gets to use its full 2d6 then the vanquisher should be able to use its full penetrative power.. but im pretty sure the vanquisher shouldnt be able to so by that logic, niether should meltabombs. Plus Your only hitting one 6's so its a pretty poor choice. Just send him up against either a demoable necron squad or shoost him at some destroyers/h.destroyers.
With his deployement - you can actually place him so that enemy vehicles gives him protective blocking TLOS. I.e loose him behind somthing like a whirlwind (Which cant fire at him & if it moves out of the way it cant fire being, i think, an ordenance wepaon.

Actually, the logic is sound. The Monolith Prohibits weapons from rolling extra penetration dice, and the Vanquisher roll an extra dice for penetration. Meltabombs are 8+ 2d6 by definition, they don't roll extra anything. of course, It is silly logic and no-one sane actually plays that way. A vehicle can fire an Ordnance Weapon Directly even if it moved at combat speed, what it cannot do is fire Ordnance Barrage

Actually, the 2nd printing of the Necron codex (been out for years now) clarifies the Living Metal rule so that you only ever roll Strength + 1D6 against it period.
I agree that Marbo is the bomb (pun intended) for 65 points. If you have the opportunity to deploy him into a good spot to throw his satchel and be in cover, his stealth ability means that if an enemy wants to try to shoot him dead it isn't certain by any means (depending on how much fire they waste shooting at him).
Compare him to a Lictor for god's sake! Lictors should be this good for 65 points!

Oh Bleh. I keep forgetting that. I have a First Run necron Codex (and I'll be damned if I buy a new one when this one is just fine) and keep forgetting about that. He is much, much better than a lictor, he's just as sneaky, much more destructive and doesn't have to scatter/dangerous terrain test! If the rumours about the 'nid codex coming Q1 2010 are true, look forward to much better Lictors soon if guard get this for 65

Of course, he won't be much use against MEQs once he's dropped his demo charge, unless you deploy him in a bunch of vehicles so he can go nuts with meltabombs.

I actually rate his chance quite highly against a combat squad of 5 marines (no power weapons/fists). This will be realized by the other guy (if im correct in my assumption) & give you a degree if tactical control even before you deploy marbo because of what he can do, anywhere.

Well, I will have you know, that I said for you to get the current print run since you play the army, I don't play Necrons (I just collect the Codex's) so I am not gonna spend money on keeping up to date a rule set I do not use.

I like the look of Marbo on paper. The amont of havoc he can cause for 65 pnts is impressive and as someone pointed out quite nicely above, he is one of those units (much like flank marching penal troops) that is a great distraction. It's like throwing a hornet's nest into your opponent's army and daring him to do something about it.
But I have one problem......I truly hate the goofy "Oliver Stone does Vietnam" look of anything relating to the Catachans. So the official model is a no-go for me. I can always use "counts as" of course. anyone got a good idea of a substitute for marbo?

Marbo is pretty amazing and fun against terminators, marines or any expensive squad that he can blow up with his demo charge. Occasionally Marbo epically fails and blows himself up and in kill point missions he is a liablity because he will kill some enemies but not enough to get a kill point and then get killed and give up a kill point. Marbo is just fine against Mech armies because usually by the time he shows up you cracked open a transport. The sniper pistol and knife are often irrelavent because the opponent usually kills him after he tosses his demo charge and he can not assault the turn he infiltrates.
Hardest decision with running Marbo is the elite slot competition with Pysker Battle Squads and Daemon Hunter Inquisitor with 2 Mystics.

My early list had Psyker Battle Squad, Daemon Hunter Inquisitor with Mystics and Marbo but with leadership 9 being not as reliable as expected especially having to contend with runes of warding, and psychic hoods, Marbo might be getting fired for a second Psyker Battle Squad.

Actually he really isn't terribly hard to convert from one of the plastic cadians, getting creative with the pistol and the demo charge can really just come down to what you have lying in your bits box.

Played vs Marbo today. He is very cool. His demo charge scattered and killed 2 termies, paid for himself. Then took a scattered battlecannon, from friendly fire, to the face and went to ground. 2+ cover is very nice. Took fire from a 5 man assault squad with plasma, a land raider, a landspeeder tornado and was finally killed by a dread with a multimelta. Add the points of what it took to kill him in that game and I know I will be adding him in my guard.. Annoying yes. I knew better than to let him live. As I run a vehicle heavy army. Fleeting melta bombs are not nice to me.
