Had a fun game today- I was trying out a list with 2 full Psyker squads, and I came up against an Eldar army with Eldrad...so I took a fair few Ultimate Sanctions, and my Psychic abilities only went off twice the whole game.

Towards the end of the game, I wound up using my PBS's laspistols and then charging a unit of Fire Dragons and Dire Avengers just to clear them off an objective. My opponent was quite surprised when he saw just how many attacks I was able to throw out against him. Worked brilliantly, and made me smile in the face of all those Psyker losses and general ineffectiveness that game.

The game prior, though, they were just nasty...felt like cheating vs. my biker-heavy Space Marine opponent.

They are actually pretty mean when you have straken close at hand. 20 furious charging battle psykers are not anything to sneeze at. 60 S4/I4 attacks? Yes please.

That being said, I'll still give you a 0 if you bring more than 5 eldar skimmers. Don't be that guy.

Psykers are base S2. with furious they become S3. Not exactly a crack assault unit, no matter how you cut it.

ah, true, they are only str 3 on a furious charge. well... 30 ws3 s3 I4 attacks is mediocre goodness too.

I've run a pair of full-size squads in the few games I've played with the new Codex.

For 165 points, having a Chimera that can move and put down a Str9 shot, is an absolute steal. Two of my opponent's three armies are either entirely or 90% Fearless, and I can say as someone who uses the Soulstorm power more often than the Weaken Resolve power, they are well worth it. Have them hang back behind other Chimeras for cover while lobbing Large Blasts is great fun. Granted, I lucked out and caused a Chaos Land Raider to explode the first shot of the game with them, but despite this they have proven to be highly effective and so very much worth it.

I threw down one game where things got so desperate that in the last turn I had to disembark them to reach an objective and contest it, which they successfully did even after being assaulted by five Bloodletters! Them assaulting through terrain and my Ld9 ended up saving the day, as they were awarded MVP for that game.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

I will put in my final word as this: Battle Psykers are the most solid choice for an elite in a 'Codex: imperial guard' force. Comparing them with the other options standard to the codex, they are the best, the brightest and the most cost efficient.
