Ok, bad news the 50% sale is over almost as quickly as it began.

Thankfully the current game is awesome. Both C:AoR and AT-43. The models are less versitile though, true. Too bad the skirmich game did so poorly, maybe the metal models might have last longer.

Not that it matters to me. Just makes me laugh when people complain about a wicked good game like C:AoR. I miss 2nd edition 40K, yet somehow people have little sympathy. I suppose invalidating the hundreds of dollars I spent on codeices wasn't as bad as invalidating one rulebook and one supplement.

Sorry they missed the boat. They had the highest standard of minis and threw it away. *shrug* The game was ok, but I've moved on since then. If I was interested in prepainted I'd use D&D minis or mage knight or other crappy items.

I DONT miss second edition. At all. it was RT made bigger as skirmish and didnt work well. Terminators ruled the battlefield, crazy eldar and space wolf builds and transports were deathtraps. Not sure what versionof 2nd YOU were playing. I dont miss it in the least.

And my minis arent invalidated. They had more than one use, so since I'm not longer play confrontation I still put them to really good use. Just not anything to do with rackham.

Second edition was even more insane than 3rd and 3.5. 3.5 was the clenest, but it had it's fair share of issues. The problem is skirmish games - along with making no money - need a necessarily convoluted ruleset inorder to feel like you're "doing" as much with 10% of the figures. Going to army scale was the best decision Rackham ever made.

For the company? Sure, if it makes them more money no sweat. But they lost more than a few folks by going preplastic and away from metal. *shrug* The strong following at our club died off once that happened.

I'm big into C:AoR, obviously, but I think what I like best about it is how it represents heroic combat. There is always a chance - no matter how slim - that you will hit and wound your opponent. Even the lowliest grunt can slay a dragon if he does well enough. And it's all about Elixir, and direct combat between incarnates... It's just cool. The skirmish game was about how to use a slide ruler and spend three hours using 12 models (if you can't both sides).

Obviously you are a fan or you woundnt spend time trying to convince me it great. But its not going to happen. The reason that brought me into the fold is gone. Making rock solid rules with crappy minis will not get me or more than a few back into the fold. YOu have to understand that.

Some us LOVED the skimish aspect with 12 minis- easy in, ease to get ready to play via paint. easier to dabble with different factions. That was one of the strong points of starting a new game- not a large bit of start up.

Is there a rule that you cannot use the metals to play the game?
Is it really that costly to pick up the rules and maybe an army book? $50?

I have a bunch of Wulfen, and if I were to play the new Confrontation, I would be using them.
Not much translates exactly to what it was, but you can get close enough.

I have the rules and Wulfen book, just didnt get around to picking up another force to play against.
Once I do that, I will recruit opponents.
I also know a group near me that played 3 and 3.5, might have numbers enough to play the new rules.

No. Rackham is replacing its orginal line with prepaint plastic, there is nothing telling you you cannot use old metal minitures, doing so would raise banned Squats level of anger. It would also offend European trading standards laws because it would be disavowing old lawfully usable purchases that is not past an inherent use by date to force a resale, GW tried that some time ago and got slapped down for it.

No point in it anymore. No one has any interest in it anymore. They feel jerked around with the couple of editions. I have no interest in recruiting people.

Besides I dont know if they have drune book or Devourers out yet, which is what I played.

Absolutely not. My main army, the Lions of Alahan is all metal as is my Devourer army. My Wolfen have plenty of metal Incarnates although the units are all PPP.

Drunes are being subsumed into other armies, as are the Sessairs, but the Devourers have their army list online for free, as do all armies that do not have a printed army book.

Also, those that DO have a printed army book: any unit that is not in said book will still be online for free and completely useable in your army, just as though it were printed there. RE's intention is to release a second round of army books for most armies that will include other units including those in the "supplement" lists.

The lists are all here.

The complete rules are also available for a free download here because Rackham isn't afraid of the internet and realizes that if a game is popular, people buy the ruleset anyways. Thank god someone isn't a but-job about releasing info on the internet. The rules that come in the starter set are complete but do not include all the fluff in the rulebook sold seperately.

I have a rather large army of the (metal) Undead of Acheron picked up from ebayed stuff from people quitting. I supplemented that by a pile of stuff that I got at 75% off from SMG's firesale a year or so back. The rules I got free off Teh Internetz. My mate has a couple of armies which he has been painting for fun over the last couple of years. We've downloaded the rules for free of t'internet. At some point I'll get them painted (once they've worked their way up to the top of my backlog pile) and we're on for a game!

I'm not overly impressed with their plastics for Conf., but I don't need them, and never will.

I like the AT-43 plastics though. If only I could get hold of them in the UK without having to pay either exorbitant shipping costs and a tragic exchange rate that makes even the forthcoming army deals looks a bit on the rich side for me... :( I have halfway decent Red Blok force, but want to expand it without sacrificing a limb or six ...

Hey ho. That's the price I pay for living in England's Green and Pleasant Land I guess!
