Great models in the box, nice saving all round, most people tend to use the box to bolster what they have
Can pick up the units in the box via ebay for half the value of the usual GW ones.
so, cheap units, of course people will get them
i plan on making a deathwing army soon, and most of the termies will be comming from the AoBR box.
Also, another good buy ( WHFB) is skull pass.
you can pick up units of 20 night goblins for £8! (spear or bow)
10 spider riders for £6, or a troll for £5, whats not to like about the boxes?

Not quite. They started including them when 3rd edition 40K was released. Epic 40K introduced the metric version which was also included in Battlefleet Gothic.

I laugh when I hear people complain about this set (which is rare) Seriously what did you expect to get for 55 bucks? FW quality minis? prepainted by pros? A free hand job?
Cmon the minis are all nice, even for being basic they are nice. The captain and warboss are just AWESOME. Sure I agree with the captain having a bolter being kind of stupid. Easy fix is saying its a storm bolter OR file it off and stick another gun on it.
Rule book, templates, dice(god GW dice BLOW!!!!) cmon this set is TOTALLY worth it for the price and the parts.

Another thing I liked about it was that the cheap termies in it had stormbolters. I converted five of them to assault termies from the remains of the assault boxed set which left me with their stormbolters to give to my sergeants and veterans. I think they must have been in all boxed versions of warhammer. They make a great swishy sound in the air , can be put on the board to mark deployment zones , cut up and used as scenery , can rescue those dice that roll under furniture and when all else fails used as some kind of ruler. No forget the last sugestion thats just silly.
Damn, you should be selling for GW!

One word: "Cheap"
Seriously, starting any army is daunting. Starting Orks was frightning! I really love them, but I never bought into Warhammer because I just didn't have the cash and "McCraggie" or whatever it's called had SMs and 'Nid, niether which I cared for.
When I heard about AoBR I was sold. I've got 2 sets worth of Orks (traded the SMs) and now I've got a great starter army to learn the basics with.
I wouldn't complain about anything for the price I got the set at.

10 marines
Captain
Dreadnaught
5 terminators
Warboss
5 Nobz
Boyz (cant recall if its 10 or 20)
3 Deff Copta's
For cheaper then 2 Tactical squads.
Why the hell is any one complaining?
not much in the way of spare bitz, but then when you get 2 500point armies and a rule book who cares?
Its not a box of bitz, its a box to get people into playing and teach them the rules
5/5 for me, its the best box yet

Im not that much into playing , my whole army evolvs around painting/modeling them . When i got AoBR i found out i whasnt gonna get any bits nor pieces , so that one disapointsment .
Kind of hard to have any sympathy for some one who buys this and is disappointed at this point. There are plenty of pictures of the sprues around and lots of reviews. A tiny bit of research would have shown Gretar what he was getting and kept him from 'wasting' is kroners.
You obviously have internet access, and the set has been out for so long that there's really no excuse. AoBR isn't exactly designed for the painter and modeler, sorry you felt like you were cheated but it's really your own fault.
Also, I don't have mounds of cash, either, I live check to check like most. What, do you think everyone else in the world just drops insane amounts of cash on this stuff without knowing what's in the box like you obviously do?

Honestly, I love the AoBR Orks from a modeling perspective. Thanks to a hobby knife, some bits, and some greenstuff, I have made all of my Lootas, Shoota boys and Kommandos from AoBR orks...and all for a fraction of the price of other GW kits. All it takes is some imagination and time and the AoBR Orks become the gift that just keeps on giving!
Oh yeah, I also made 2 Big Meks from AoBR Bosses, and I am currently debating on either making Nob bikers or Buggies with the Deffkoptas (since I have 12 )

I bought 2 AOBR sets. It sucks that there are no extra weapon options, but like Gaznab said: you get extra bitz from a few normal boxes. I scratch built a cyclone launcher (using 2 hunter-killer launcher things), a tech marine and a plasma cannon. It makes for interesting models and a better AOBR experience.

This kit definitely benefits you a lot more if you're an ork player. I've made mega armor nobs, KFF big meks, a mega armor warboss, kommandoz, lootaz, biker nobz, shoota boyz, PK nobs, big choppaz, kombi/weapons plus some more stuff that I can't think of right now. The dread can easily be converted to a deffdred or even a mega armor boss. The models from the regular boxed sets may have the potential to look cooler and you get a lot more bits out of them but the AoBR box is enough to easily make due and once you put them on the table you can't tell the difference, anyway. You get so many bits with the boxed sets that you could just buy a ton of AoBR boys and use a couple of boxed sets to make anything that you want.

to the op it says right on the box what your getting and even says that they are snap together now if its a snap together set did you really think you would be able to pose them how you want? and its funny if you just take a little time you can cut them here and there and make them different all in all its a great box to buy for ANYONE.

Myself and a couple of friends got back into playing with AOBR. Getting two people to buy and swap forces makes it the best starter set GW have done.
With Internet discount and selling the Orks I spent £15 for the Rulebook & 1000 Points of Marines. It was well worth the money even though I only wanted the Terminators and Captain from the figures.
I think the set is even better for an Ork player as there models look better. Definetly five star rating.

Its a great set,
Enough troops to make a decent sarter game or few for beginners, for others if they want the models then buy it, theres pleanty of more experienced player boxes out like battleforces. To me this is the very beginning for people, the lack of options if more likely to allow them to get the models together and begin playing... imagine how confusing it would be for new players if there are loadsof options to pick for each squad.
This way they learn the basics and may enjoy themselves and get more... those vets who buy ti shouldbe smiling for the fact they get a nice amount of models to add into amies. its gravy bar the small lack of terrain area. but i suppose it gives the new comers a chance to build their own and get that warm fuzzy feeling. vets should have terrain already.

The models are'nt the "BEST" but their not all that horrible. I think for the price, you cant beat it.
Your options are:
1) just use empty bases and call it a SM or Ork :(
2) Pay full price for the good box of troops.
3) Buy AoBR for $60 and get a decent sized starter or addition to your army.

I think GW hit it out of the park with the AoBR set. I would love to see this trend continue as new editions of the game continue to come out.
I am not a fan of lugging around the big hard cover book, and love having the smaller soft cover no nonsence rule book on hand at games for easy reference. I honestly don't want or need all the fluff or hobby advice added to the large book. So for ten dollars more than I would have spent on the large book, I get the smaller book and a ton of nice models. Models I can sell or give to a friend to encourage them to get into the hobby. Or models to practice new painting techniques on.
BfM didn't really have enough models IMO to really draw new people into the hobby, but two people could buy AoBR and have a decent start on building armies.

AoBR is a great box. I converted the Sergeant, I think the Captain model has a lot of character, the Dread is always nice to have, the Terminators helped me finish off a squad I was building and finish off my Deathwatch Terminator squad (with a bit of converting) and I sold the Orks.
Win/Win.

See? GW can't please everyone!
AoBR is a fanatastic value. You get a lot of snap-fit models for the money. But there's no sneakiness here. GW was pretty clear they're not the multi-pose models, so I don't know why you're complaining.
Now, personally, I didn't buy AoBR, because I don't play Orks and I already have enough multi-pose SM & Dreads. But knocking the set because they're giving you the snap-fit models that they said they would isn't fair.

can I just say I registered just to say how stupid all the idiots who are whining that they arent multi part as this was a blessing for me-
I have (already before the AOBR boxed set) a good 700pts worth of troops (orks) and my little brother decided he wanted to have a go at WH40k so I suggested we bought the AOBR box and it was great as he (who is 8) can put them together all by himself without any help (okay I showed him how to do it and I did the dreadnought because it looked so cool!!!) so I could put my lootas and burnas together (5 of each if your intuitive) then convert some very nice kommandoes which are perfect as I have been looking for an excuse to field snikrott
so quite whining as this is a very good cheap set and it makes boosting troops easy as additional bits can be bought from ebay

Not only are the AoBR figs cheap, useful, as nice as any other plastics, and paint up great (I get compliments on my Orks every time I bring them to the FLGS), because they are not multi-piece, my six-year-old can’t break them when we play. Heck, I invariably drop an Ork or two on the floor when I play, since I moving 100+ figs. I love that they don’t break. Also love the easy to carry book.

it is an excellent starter kit. It gives everything you need to get your feet wet at a price that won't break the bank. Its a better value then the original 40K boxed set for first edition.

Ok Here is what's up.
I would first like to say i am not critisizing anything that the OP said. but i do have to say that it is a starter kit and it was so cheap that you cant expect much. so lucky for me i knew what i would get and what peices come in it. Now here is the remedy:
buy the set
1.-sell the books and supplies(unless you need some) on ebay (for around $15 usd)
2.-sell the army you dont want for around $35 usd on ebay (or to a friend/swap for opposite armies, supplies, ect)
For orks-
follow the "Assault on bland reach" guide on this site (awsome imho)
swap nobz with nob bitz from nob box set of custom convert to klaws, big choppas.
for Space marines-
sorry dont know i dont play em but im sure you can do something.
i bought 5 boxed sets and made back 3/4 of the money i spent with the stuff i didnt want from the set (marines and supplies/books)
i then converted 3 coptas to bikerboyz and 2 to biker bosses. sold other 10 koptas to a frend at my local store.you could sell extra hq as you only can have 2 and probably only want 1 warboss and a mek or something.
ALSO FOR ANY ORK PLAYERS- you can use the terminators and dreadnaught to make meganobz and a mega armoured boss... i did this and it turned out well.
so in my opinion... i loved the set but can agree that more then 5 poses... over and over again... could be better...
i give it a 8
(breakdown)
10-6 (bland)
+1 (supplies and mini rulebook)
+2 (cheap)
+1 (easily fixed by selling extras)
