BaronIveagh wrote:Sportsterizing is where you cut up a gun and add aftermarket parts to it. For example, if I were to take my Arisaka, file all the markings off it, retool the action to accept a standard 308 round and replace the barrel, then strip of the iron sites and add a scope, and removed the steel butcap and replace it with a more 'modern' rubberized shock pad, I'd have sportsterized it. And shaved about 3-4 zeroes off it's resale value.

The worst case of this I've ever seen was someone taking a 1795 Springfield and converting it to a percussion shotgun. It's value dropped by $50,000. I cried.

I file it under stupid things people do in their ignorance.

QFT.

Lucky for me they didnt attack the poor thing with a file.

@ratbarf:

If you find somewhere to get a Lee Enfield let me know. I can't get one for a year or so (Can't have weapons in University residences), but I went shooting with a friend awhile ago and i LOVED the Lee.

I dont own any firearms (unless you count my awesome nerf pistol), but I've been interested in them forever. My mother's an uber pacifist though so i was never able top get even an air rifle. When i've got my own place i'm going to pick up a decent rifle though. I'm a decent shot so I want to get into shooting.

Best place I can find is Gunbroker.com.

Think Ebay but with firearms.

Try this place:

Not sure if you can even fix a cracked stock on it but, it is pretty cheap for what it is!

JP did you get a new upper for the 1903?

Saturday She Who Must Be Obeyed took a shine to a tiny old .380 and named it "brutus." She also took a shine to a tweaked Beretta and the wife of the couple we brought along took a shine to the .22 target pistol I was shooting. Translation: I bring lots of guns to go shooting and end up sitting watching the wives shoot all my guns.

"Can I shoot one of my guns."
"We're shooting them. You don't mind do you honey?"
"But you have your own pistols."
"Well baby is in the shop and I don't feel like shooting my .22."
"But I'd like to shoot some of MY OWN guns."
"Just sit down and eat a sandwich. We'll be done in a while."

(legal note, for future reference I don't own any firearms and am just shocked shocked Mr. Holder that people would own firearms. No I don't need to register any firearms. I did own a pistol along long time ago but it was stolen when my house was robbed, really...)

Yeah, picture taking a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost in pristine condition and chopping it up to make a hot-rod.

Frazzled:
Nope, didnt have to. The upper was in pretty good shape and I was able to salvage it. Only part was that somebody took what looks like a steel brush to it at one time trying to (I can only guess) remove rust. Needless to say it took me days to buff out the scratches.

Also I know how you feel. I made the mistake of letting the GF shoot my Ak-47 once..... Now I might as well spraypaint it pink and be done with it. lol.

The stronger the weapon is ( even for self protection ) the less chance it is for either side to walk out alive.

It's a tool meant to kill. If you have one, learn to live with it's effects if you use it.

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

Currently I just own a Mosin Nagant M91/30, but am looking to get the Beretta Cx4 Carbine in .40S&W and eventually the Beretta Px4 hand gun also in .40S&W. I want the Cx4 so I can start getting Px4 mags, since it can use them.

The .40 is what the local, County and State Police use around here so Self Defense, if it was necessary, wouldn't be excessive.

Anyone have any experience with the Px4? I've only ever fired one once at a local gunshop/range and found it to be rather nice, the only thing about it that was off was the .40 cal round but that was my first experience with it, most of my pistol experience being with 9mm, .44 mag and .357 mag.

I'd also like to get an M-14, and a nice shotgun. Well actually lots of different firearms but thats because I would love to have a good collection of Modern and older weapons.
