You can't ally SM's with GK's, something about the GK's being a "secret" chapter lol

The rules are the same for both WH and DH you can't take a GK or SOB main list and ally in SM but you can take a SM list and ally in 0-1 HQ, 0-2 Troops, 0-1 Elite, and 0-1 Fast Attack.

Longer answer ... "Grey Knight Dreadnought" != "Dreadnought", "Venerable Dreadnought" or "Iron clad Dreadnought"

You can still take the Dreadnoughts, as the MOTF makes it possible for Dreadnoughts to be classified as HS or Elites

? sorry but I have to assume that you mean "Grey Knight Dreadnought" since you can already take any 2 "Dreadnought", "Venerable Dreadnought" or "Iron clad Dreadnought" (3 if you don't take an elite from the DH codex).

Master of the forge allows the following to be take as heavy or elite "Dreadnought", "Venerable Dreadnought" or "Iron clad Dreadnought". That list doesn't include "Grey Knight Dreadnought" so you can't take them when you ally DH to SM army.

That means no termies! Waahahahahaaaa (sob/sniffle).

You need those termies etc if you're going to take out the avatar, who would make mincemeat out of the dread.

Fine about having the GK Dreadnought, but I'd rather have the SM Dreadnoughts than the DH ones, they're tooled up for the new rules.

You're kidding me, right? The whole army is S6 with S6 Power Weapons everywhere, and everything still hits on 4+. CUT HIM DOWN. I do not have my books on me but Justicars and Grey Knight Heros can take wargear, I do not know if that includes the Inquisitor anti-demon stuff.

If there is a symbol by the items, it's IQ only, but there are also some items which are GK only.

I would think Grey Knight Terminators would work... Give one a Psycannon and keep the rest armed w/ stormbolters and nemesis force weapons. Heck even regular Grey Knights sound like they'll do the trick.

I'd suggest a Purgation squad armed with Psycannons but you'll probably want something with better assault capabilities.

This statement is false.

Grimoire of True Names has a "2" superscript, which the table tells us means Inquisitors, Inquisitor Lords, and Grey Knight Heroes.

So a GKGM with the GOTN would be equal in points to the Avatar, and have an interesting time fighting him. (Avatar hits on a 4+, wounds on a 2+, GKGM saves on a 5+, while the GKGM hits 4+, wounds 4+, wound is saved on a 4+, but a single hit could kill the Avatar.)

If you wanted to make things interesting, give him a Daemonhammer and Destroy Daemon. This lets him re-roll to hit and to wound, and gets him to wound on a 2+. He can't also kill with one blow, but it's a trade-off.

Though i personally wouldn't do the above build. I'd take a Brother Captain, give him the Daemonhammer, Grimoire, Icon of the Just, and psycannon. He'd cost 126 points, have a 2+/4++, ignore invuln saves with his shooting, and attack with Str 8, at initiative versus the avatar.

Also, his gun would have the added advantage of leveling Farseers. (That's a no save ID wound.) So blast Eldrad so he can't use Fortune on the Avatar. If you have a few more points (like, the 30 your guy versus the Avatar) grab a retinue for ablative wounds.

Maugan Ra, Karandras, Jain Zar, Eldrad, Yriel, Farseer + Warlock + Autarch all on jetbikes, Striking Scorpions, Fire dragons, Wrathguard, Banshee, Harlequin, Wave Serpent, Dire Avengers, Rangers/Pathfinders, Guardain jetbike Squadron, Shining spears, Warp spiders, Dark reapers, WrathLord, WarWalkers, Falcon, Fire prism .... Yes I have a very low opinion of Avatar.

Avatar is big and slow, you can avoid him. I think any eldar skimmer on the table is a bigger threat in most situations.

erm anything but swooping Hawks really. A doom and guided Bladestorm can score 22 wounds against MEQ. Fire Prisms can twin link and take out almost anything in the game. Eldar are about high damage fast.

A Vindicare should solve the avatar problem if you're playing Daemonhunters.

I find that the "immortal" guardian does a bunch of damage. My kill count for ONE squad of guardians in a game is 2 Drop Pods, An Ironclad Dreadnaught, a whirlwind, and Kronos.
My second best score with guardians is 4 Necron Warriors and a Monolith.
