I remember when Space Wolves were considered one of (if not the most) cheese-filled danish of a codex when it arrived in Third Edition (at least in my FLGS). Heck, even before their codex, the WD list was pretty powerful.

GW does not write balanced army books and/or codexes. Give up on that reality.

Players are allowed to bring any legal list to a game.

Now, some lists will be better point for point than others. That happens in any point-based game system.

Don't complain because someone brought a better list. And don't hit it with the nerf bat because you don't like it. You have no choice but accept it.

I don't play WFB, but I thought Terror-causers was one of the big metagame components in WFB. To me, this is like complaining about Lash in 40k, you know it's out there, and if you don't have a way to deal with it, I have no sympathy for you.

But, bad sportsmanship is a different matter.

In the dark future, there are skulls for everyone. But only the bad guys get spikes. And rivets for all, apparently welding was lost in the Dark Age of Technology. -from C.Borer

Wow. I can't believe I'm actually making an account just so I can post in this thread.... anyway.

The balance in fantasy is totally eff'ed up currently.

It's not a question about bringing a knife to a gun fight or any of those cutesy metaphors.

Fantasy has always suffered from paper - rock - scissors matchups. Since GW has basically given up attempting to prevent people from abusing army lists the list dichotomy has just intensified.

It is interesting to watch the shift in the army composition as people have learned to deal with the "suck it up and deal" mentality.

Some armies are not getting played anymore (OnG, Bretts, Beasts) while the big three (DE, VC, Demons) dominate.

The reason there are so many comp debates and such is because GW has basically abandoned any semblance of balance. It's not a question of whining or not sucking it up.

Florida

I have seen people take the hardest lists and still be some of the nicer gamers ever.

I have seen people take fluff lists and be TFG in playing and being very judgmental on what people took.

A good friend once said "Play a first tier army if you want to win. Play a second tier army if you want a challenge. Play a third tier army if you dig the army. But stop whining about what others play."

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.
