They're $33 here.
I'm thinking of just ordering them from OS, like I did with the valkyrie (saving 33% after shipping).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

A few things to update this with.

First and foremost, if you guys haven't already seen, casts of the heavy automatic cannon I made for this model have been picked up and are being manufactured and sold by D6 Hobbies. Those of you with an interest in building your own Hydras may be interested, as it looks like the quad-autocannon-setup from the Planetstrike bastion might be a bit too small a substitute.

Second, I've resumed work on the model some. I attached the guns to the turret itself, and closed off the back of the turret with some handy angled pieces. Detailing of that area comes next, and I need to cast myself a couple extra ammo feed bits to sit on the outside areas of the guns. I added some rivets and minor detail around the base of the turret as well, and finished the tracks off with the addition of some handy track guards to cover the terrible Chimera treads.

The turret still rotates freely, and will continue to do so. I've no intention of gluing it in a fixed position.

Now, here's where I couldn't help myself.

Since I'm making this as a gift to a buddy I owe a favor to, I figure I can't just repay him the favor. That'd be too easy.

So I start thinking to myself, what could I do to spite him for making me build a hydra?

I believe I have come up with an ideal solution.

Watch carefully. Nothing up my sleeve, and...

What's that? Notice anything out of the ordinary?

Hmmm.

Look closer, and...

Green iz best!

So, since the cannons are being sold, do you have instructions for the turret and the rear body?

Not really, since I'm sort've winging it myself. The turret's pretty straightforward, with the only really hard part being that angled back piece. Truthfully, you could just close the back in with a flat bit and put a sensor array back there and it'd look just as fine. I had some extra baneblade plates which are making up the two front angled pieces of the turret, but other than that there's not that much going on there.

The chimera is also pretty straightforward. I had this thing leftover from a basilisk chassis, so the whole back was open and I needed to close it. I started with the top flat piece, and measured the width I'd need to cover the top of the chimera. A bit of overhang in the back past the treads makes it match the Forgeworld Hydra chassis a bit better. Hardest part of this was the two side pieces near the treads, but I sort've eyeballed that and got lucky.

For what it's worth, I plan on making a universal quad-turret mount soon that can accept a variety of different guns, the cannons included. Figure that'll be useful for stuff like Planetstrike.

Thankyou! I love the rules and look of the Hydra, but balk at FW prices and reputation. Bashing it up out of plasticard to resemble something like the Tunguska would be ideal.

Ein,

I love your autocannons. Maybe folks could pair them with Old Crow's Tac missle turret which retails for 4.95 British Pounds?

Here on Dakka, Flinty made some kitbash IG Hydras using these turrets and Old Crow's largest gun barrels on SM Predator sponsons. It would be easier just to use your autocannons, which are also more aesthetically pleasing. It also saves the hassle of trying to locate enough Predator sponsons.

Love your website. Lexington's old webcomic, Misfire, mentioned it many years ago so I've been following your work. Glad you started adding to it again.

And I'm all done here! Figured I'd finish this thing off and get my friend off my back about it, so I went ahead and added some stuff to the turret and riveted the whole thing up where necessary.

I think I'm done with it at this point. If the new owner feels inclined to add more to it, that's his prerogative, but all the essentials are there. I sort've winged it with the details on the back end of the hydra because I couldn't find any pictures of the thing to work from, but I'm not really dissapointed with my Ein-variant hydra design.
