Lines went off their on-line catalogue on Sunday. Various people from the tactical command and warseer forums contacted ForgeWorld yesterday and got the same response. Anything that has gone from the catalogue is now out of production. Other lines will stay on the catalogue while they have stock, and callers were advised to buy now. They were then told that Forge World are reviewing the entire epic line to see if its finnancially worth continueing, and some staff hinted that they thouight this unlikely.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Anyone know more?
That's such a shame. I really wish GW could have done plastics for Epic. I know the startup costs for each sprue make that impractical, but it would have been a great way to build up starter armies. I've always liked the look of the game, I just couldn't afford all the armies I would have needed to buy to get others into the game.
A thought just occurred to me. You know how GW has licensed an RPG out to Fantasy Flight games? Maybe they could license out Epic plastic to the Wargames Factory. Or maybe the Epic fans can petition the Wargames Factory for some 'generic' 6mm plastic sprues.
That's disappointing, but I've never bought anything from Forgeworld, nor have I bought an Epic mini from GW since at least 2002. I've been a long-time fan of Epic and I have pretty sizable armies that I purchased a decade ago (plus countless figures on sprues).
The game is great from a consumer standpoint with small, easily transported armies and a better sense of scale. Unfortunately the prices have been insane post-Space Marine/Titan Legion and Epic 40K sucked so much that the good rules of Epic:Armageddon couldn't recover. Especially not with GW's lackluster support of the system. :(
The whole "deep game vs beer&pretzels game" is the same with any market though. Hearts of Iron 2 and Space Empires 4 are considered "niche games" while everybody and their mother says "Yeah, I play strategy games too...like Command & Conquer."

I like the idea Epic; I’ve played it off and on since the old Space Marine days. It is very tactical, and it’s neat to see the full range of 40K vehicle and titans in action. But after playing Epic again recently, I remember why don’t love it. It takes sizable armies to get the full enjoyment from the game. That means the games last 3 hours (partly my fault, I simply can’t play it often enough to become fully conversant with the rules). It also means moving sooo many little pieces around the board. After every game, I kinda think to myself, “ I could have been playing 40K, instead.” This is not to dis Epic, but it does have its drawbacks.
I don’t see Apocalypse as a bigger game of Epic. It’s a bigger game of 40K, only just for fun, if played correctly.
On a side note, I’ve never thought bashing 40K and WFB is the best way to promote Specialist Games. Despite the fact that Specialist Games were supposed to promote the mainstream games, they often attract anti-GW gamers. Admittedly, this doesn’t apply so much to Epic. The bad news is I don’t really see mush of a future for Specialists Games, beyond what they have right now. Occasionally, an Epic, Mordheim, BFG, Blood Bowl, or Necro campaign breaks out at my FLGS, but the time between outbreaks is steadily increasing (around 2 to 5 years between each system right now). That means most 40K and WFB types have never played a Specialist Game.
Gw's coverage of their specialist games has also be poor of late.Apart from a mention in WD now and than and a small section on the site,we never really hear much of them.I think it is a real shame,I have always enjoyed GW's range of specialist games,Necromunda is my fav.Never played epic myself, but heard it was a good or atleast an ok game.

THey mention the Specialist Games in the WD? I thought the White Dwarf was reduced to just showing the new Space Marines and telling us to buy more more more more more more more more more more!

Non-random, complete information games like Chess and Go are for computers.
Real men play bridge.
Show me a Go-playing computer that can beat a mildly interested seven year old Go player and you might even have something there. There's no computer in the world that can handle the combinatorial explosion involved in Go.

first we get the snub from GW in general for being into thier "specialist games"
now this.
it is particularly annoying for me, i play a minervan tank company in epic, 99% of my stuff is FW. looks like my army just capped at 10,000 points even though i was looking to get more.
That's just my point, that Go is not solvable via ordinary combinatorial means without nigh infinite amounts of resources such as time or computing power. It's not a matter of the resources that we have plowed into it, but a genuine problem with the logics underlying the game-theoretic tools used to tackle the problem. It'll take longer than our lifetimes to integrate the necessary innovations in logic into combinatorial game theory, such that anyone will ever solve Go.

I will miss Epic if they get rid of the system. I believe Forge World is just losing the line right?
Higher level combat has always appealed to me (I doubt you'll find many other kids who played Norm Kroger(sp?) games as children)

Looks like another opportunity for other miniatures companies to make money with the IP that GW developed and cannot pursue due to sheer bloatedness.
I look forward to WGF space-elf sprues. Especially ones with titans... er, "tytans" or "large space elf robot suits".
WGF, the ball is yours. Run with it!!!!
Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

They look like crap.
No, no- the TINY space-elf robot suits, not the 28mm needlesslyawfulshoulderpadgunbladepoorlysculptedfaces space-elf robot suits.

This news makes me suspect that GW released Apoc because they had in mind to phase out EPIC. Apoc may not be as good, but it's the same idea and this way they sell more of the expensive models, without the expense of churning out EPIC models.
Too bad really. Epic was the game I always meant to get into but never got around to it.
