Mabye the guy got off cuase he knew someone (that's how it worked in Dubai)

As bad as ten days is for a sentence, there are a lot of people who get off completely for worse things.

I guess you could be thankful that at least this guy's getting some sort of punishment. Spending ten days in prison isn't sufficient for this kind of assault, but I doubt it's something the criminal will enjoy.

Juvenile court isnt "slap on the wrist because you're too young" court necessarily.

Child Molestation....
Child Kidnapping....
...even murder can be held in Juvenile court I beleive.

Its a regular courtroom, just one that specialises in cases that center around under-aged people. It by no means is a "sigh of releif" to suspects who go to trial there.


As far as this case goes, what do we really know about the situation?

We dont know that the victim was physically forced into doing anything justifying an assault charge on the suspect. Perhaps he might've been verbally bullied into complying...hence no assault charge, we dont know. There are any number of reasons that his punishment was a simple 10 days in jail.

A simple prank pulled by an 18 year old might have resulted in the 10 days and a warning from the court. If noone was injured, I can see it. Maybe even agree with it.

I'm wondering more about the circumstances of the prosecution. He was one of several boys involved, but he is the first prosecuted. I'm wondering if his light sentence is a result of agreeing to testify against the other boys?

But you're right we just don't know the full story.

I'll be the first to say it wasnt good clean American fun to wrap a noose around someones neck. I tend to think that circumstances probably warrented the light sentancing.

I dont KNOW, but I doubt that severe harm was actually inflicted on anyone.

Not sure shane, in VA you can be tried as an adult as young as 14, it may be different there.
