MegaMinis makes some animals with a Louisiana flavor: pelican, alligator, racoon, skunk, possum, vulture, and also a giant lobster. They also make about a dozen types of dog minis. The sculpts are not exciting but they are cheap.

Love the army theme. Keep at it!

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

Great themed army. Bravo! Keep up the great work!

You wanted Ideas, well I got one for yah.

You need an Andrew Jackson themed command figure. He was key in the defense of New Orleans back in the war of 1812. Certainly fits the theme of the army.

Haha, you beat me to it Rangerrob, I have been trying to find a way to tie in Andrew Jackson riding a white horse (like the famous statue in the French Quarter). I just really want him on a horse and can not find a way to have my CO on a horse and have rules for it...maybe a horse just for show?

I grew up learning about the battle of New Orleans and my original plan was to model the whole outfit around that army....but the horse issue...

Well I do plan on trying to get a pirate, Jean Lafayette, to some how be part of the army. I am thinking Al'Rahim cause of the flanking, just like Lafayette did in the real battle. Or maybe Bastone outflanking in a pirated themed Valk....

Thanks guys for all the comments, and ideas. I really like the snake on Sly's base. And I defiantly want to check out those website recommended to find some Louisiana models (defiantly want a Pelican and Alligator.

Well won my first game with this army today, the mortars did VERY well so I guess I have to post a pic of one and some basic grunts. I want to take some pictures of some of rest of the army later tonight or tomorrow.

(sorry for the lengthy post)

(I know these models are nothing special but they deserve some attention...I mean its the grunts who win games)

Oh man, you should totally do a pack of giant "crawfish".

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

You could always got with a White painted Chimera, nicknamed Old Hickory.

Or make him Pask and throw him in a Leman Russ...painted White of course.

Awesome stuff! Screw the whole mold line thing your models are still great! I want to make a custom bodyguard now >.<

Thanks Jon Touchdown.

Rangerrob: Haha, Ole Hickory would be great on a white painted tank with Andrew Jackson riding inside.
One option I was thinking about was adding an Inquisitor and retinue to the army...this would open up some more options for Andrew Jackson or just some fun conversions.

Hi Gator

I am using a swamp theme for my Nurgle daemons:

Taking photos as I go at the moment to do a mini-tutorial on simple water effects...

Instead of Minwax, how about GW's new wash? Devlan Mud!

Nice swampy bases tallmantin, I really like the water and how its color changes dramatically from light to dark.

I have thought about using GW's wash, but I haven't tried it yet. Does it flow into all the crevasses of the model?

I used to use vallejo washes with a mix of a floor-wax liquid to coat portions of models. For my next lower model count army I plan of using a variety of washes or dips.

The big advantage of the minwax is that it seems very "sticky" and really stays in place (especially those little details)....it is also dirt cheap, which counts for large armies using alot of wash/paint. And I dunno if this is true or not, but I think it adds durability to the model through the chemicals in the floor finish, leading to less paint chipping off.

But it smells.

I think the smell alone will be a good enough reason to switch over to GW's new washes.

Hi Gator,

The water effect is done with a couple of pooled layers of Windsor and Newton green ink - these inks are excellent for certain effects.

I then use 'Ard Coat to gloss the water after.

Cheers

I love your guard. They really have alot of character in them. I can tell youve put alot of thought into these guys and it shows big time. Very nicely done. And you saying you suck at painting is making me laugh.

And on the minwax dip, yea it smells at first, but after a day the smell goes away. Just my 1 penny worth

Great job! I'm loving the characterful swamp theme. The paint job is exactly what I'd expect for a guard army of mainly infantry (that's a lot of models) and doesn't detract at all from the quality of the conversions and kitbashes. I'm really digging it so far, and I look forward to seeing what comes out of that swampy brain of yours next.
