Not fan rumor if you watch director's cut with commentary from the director and actors they talk about it, including one of the actors freaking out.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

That gun looks really phalic from the angle in the first picture (assuming that it's a gun).

I think that's a false rumour, mainly because Christian Bale was only six years old at the time and Scott's children were about twelve. I can't imagine he was that tall at six. I have heard it was actually Tom Skerritt's son.

It is entirely possible I am remembering it incorrectly from the commentary.

The comics were better than anything that came after Aliens. I hate the retcon, glad I have the originals.

Forever alone

I knew that. Must have looked pretty damn realistic at the time.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

And that signals the beginning of cheese's downward mental spiral. LOL.

I have been thinking of purchasing some of the alien or predator novels. Does anybody know which one are good.

As cool as that is, I think I'd just rather spend the $140 on the IG.

I think it was Vernoica Cartwright, who got shot in the face with fake blood because one of the tubes happened to be aimed at her. I think they actually did two takes, because the in the first one, everyone freaked out and backed away. Then, they had to line up and do it again, mixing the takes in the final edit.

Almost everything Giger does is sexually oriented. The opening in the Space Jockey's ship (where Dallas, Lambert, and Kane enter) looks like a vagina.

Alien and Aliens are still two of my favorite movies. And, they've held up remarkably well. Alien is now 30 years old.

I'm still amazed that Jeanette Goldstein (Vasquez) didn't have a bigger career. Post Aliens, she was in Near Dark (with Paxton and Henrikson), Lethal Weapon 2, and then it's mostly been cameos or bit parts in Cameron's movies (T2 and Titanic, think there were more).

The Dark Horse comics were far superior to the storyline in Alien3 and beyond. In it, the Space Jockeys aren't that benign.

Another fun tidbit. The Space Jockey chamber is reused. The Space Jockey's platform was rolled out, a new floor installed, and it was re-used as the egg chamber. Look at the walls carefully.

The creature in Alien ended up costing like $1 million (on a $12 million budget). When Cameron made Aliens, the studio would only let him have 6 creatures. Watch it, in no one shot is there more than 6 aliens running around.

I just started watching the original Alien and have fallen in love with it. But I have a few bones to pick with it though.

1. Why is the ship so f'ing huge? Yeah, it's gotta be to transport all that crap, but can't ya compact it or something?
2. Why is John Hurt not hunting V? (For Vendatta.)

The space jockey is like... 10x larger then a human.

so a ship can be 10x larger too! ( i think... )

I was refering to the human ship. Like only six people are gonna be on something that size? Yeah, you gotta transport lots of minerals, but still. That's one of the big gripes I have about sci fi. If your gonna have a big ship why not have a whole bunch of people on it?

And on the John Hurt Note, the cover of the dvd is of an egg splitting open, and it is split like a V. Coincidence? Prolly.

Why on earth (pardon the pun) would you have a bunch of people on it? The Nostromo was essentially a tug with two engineers/mechanics and flight et al. A doc would be superfluous but I could see the need for medical mandated by the long flights and distances involved.

Modern tankers typically have small crews.
http://www.tankertrading.com/chemical.html

As the nostromo wasn't standing multiple watches etc and generally just awake during loading/unloading from dock locations it wouldn't need a large crew. They are not going to have hundreds of men pushing stuff around-it was effectively one container and the ship automatically attached to it.

No problem. Now on to rant about common sense in sci fi: I think we can all agre that if you see an egg on an alien spaceship, you know that is the cue to get your ass outta there and nuke it from orbit, right? Or is common sense a trait that is being weeded out in the human genepool.

Yea I think we've all learned the "nuke it from orbit" rule at this point.

IMHO Alien(s) (no.2) is the pretty much the only good one. They gave us bombs, nukes, knives and sharp sticks, as well as the phrase 'nuke it from orbit', not to mention the first recorded moment where a human called an alien a 'Bitch'. None of its kin got even close in degrees of awesomeness.

Well...except in in No.3 where the Black Preacher Dude goes and gives the alien a butt-whupping wiv a wrench.
