Proxying can be taken to extremes, but then again if I went out and bought all the models I needed when I first started playing seriously, I would have had go without food for a week! so I'm cool with it as long as the intention to de-proxy your army is there

No it can't be. As long as everyone knows what models have what rules. And the model doesn't attempt to exploit or break the rules, (such as an ork tank that is 7 times wider than it should be, conveniently screening) I think its all good.
On one level you're already using your imagination to assume a GW made piece of plastic represents a 8 foot tall super soldier. Its not a stretch to use your imagination and see a non-GW piece of plastic as a 8 foot tall super soldier.

I loled at BLOOD army...lol. Thats more creative/poor/lazy than bad proxy IMO.

As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time. |

As long as you can recognize what the model is supposed to be, it's all right.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy. |

The BLOOD army and cutie-slann win the thread.
In terms of staying OT, I think proxying is taken too far when both players can no longer consistently remember what things are. I don't care if you are proxying Dire Avengers with Marines, pennies, or bits of string - as long as the proxy is consistent, doesn't interfere with the gameplay, and we can both remember what they are, I'm fine with it.
I try to avoid proxies as much as possible, but sometimes proxy one weapon for another, i.e. "these plasma gunners are meltas instead". But generally I build lists around the models I have, and if I want something, I just suck it up and wait until I can afford it.

I don't mind proxies when it is blatantly obvious that they don't fit into the army (as in maybe one or two and they actually stand out), but I think this is ok for maybe 1-2 games. If you are playing the same person 3+ times and the force is the same they are either being cheap or lazy. If I've ever proxied something it's because I either forgot something at my house, or I am right in the middle of painting/assembling it.
That being said the BLOOD army and Plushly Slann are classic. I would love to see them, but would be hesitant to play against them.

I am ok with proxying if it kept to a limit. 1 or 2 items great. I have a friend who couldn't put up 1250pts of one army. It was half Tau half Eldar. Odd.
Proxy a Devil fish with a remote control Mario & Kart. At the end of the game Mario drifted and threw blues sparks onto my opponents models.

Yeah, I do have a problem with people who just proxy endlessly just to be cheap. It is one thing to proxy to try new units or new armies before investing a ton of money in them, but it is another thing entirely to just be lazy about it. Especially when they already have other armies, so you know it's not a monetary issue.
The hobby is expensive, so I'm not trying to be elitist about it, but for those of us who have invested a lot of time purchasing and painting the stuff up, it really livens up the game when everything is visually consistent. I would rather play with less terrain than soda-can factories, I guess is what I'm trying to say.
